I ordered 25 chicks...12 blue jersey giants and 13 blue orpingtons. I ordered them from Sandhill Preservation...which I read mixed reviews on. I bought mylast flock from My Pet Chicken....had Welsummers, cuckoo maran, buckeye, blue cochin (really like them) and in the past I've also had buff orpingtons, barred rock, dominique. I usually don't get 25 but these will not be "sexed" so was afraid I'd get mostly cocks. At present I've been without for a year....really miss them. I liked the Welsummers but my rooster was really mean to my husband.....and anyone around except me. I heard jersey giant roos were nice and I never had a orpington roo but figure it will be nice too.

Too bad about the welsummer roo. I had one that got mean and he decided to go to my sisters house for dinner. The one I have now is nice so far. The Delawares are by far the friendliest chicken I have ever had.

I have only ever had one nasty Welsummer roo and he was from a hatchery. It might be the line he was from. Most of mine, while not cuddly, are certainly respectful and have never, ever been aggressive. I will not tolerate an aggressive rooster, I have a six year old that likes to help with chores and I won't have her getting hurt from a nasty roo. On occasion, I find some, as they hit puberty will get a bit testy, but most come right out of it as they age. As long as they are not really aggressive and grow out of it, I will give them a pass. However, those were other breeds, not even wellies.

I really liked my rooster and I gave him every chance I could. I don't have any little kids that come around here but I was worried he would go after my Mother in Law and since I do love my MIL I could not have that happen.

I've got about 35-40 Speckled Sussex eggs in my bator right now...due to hatch out on the 28th. I'm planning on hatching throughout the spring and summer. I just changed out roo's so this next batch will have a different sire. I'm waiting to hear back from a breeder in Indiana but I'm supposed to be getting some new hens (and possibly some more hatching eggs) from him which will bring in new genetics!

I would definately like to swap some eggs/birds with you.

Do you have any pictures of your speckleds?

I do not have any pics but I will try to get some and post them early next week.

I can attest to what Vicki is saying about her Wellie roos. I have one of hers, he's gorgeous and friendly. I couldn't be more pleased with him AND he gets along well with my extremely large blue cochin roo. I can't wait to hatch eggs, should be an interesting combination of chicks and the Welsummer chicks should be wonderful.
