I feel your pain there. I tried to clean mine yesterday. It was a frozen mess. I couldn't get it so they just got another thick layer of straw on top until it thaws out in there. Which is not happening anytime soon with it being 2 degrees outside in the morning.

I was reading the WOOD TV 8 (Grand Rapids) weather blog last night and their meteorologist, Bill Steffan, included in his storm predictions that we will not see anything about the mid-thirties until after 2/15.

Re 4H'ers

I am getting both RC LF RIRs this year and LF Partridge Wyandottes, I will be culling, and have a few pairs or trios for 4H kids, NC, they will be my culls but, they are from SQ Heritage breeders, so should be pretty good.

I will know in June what I have, they wont be mature by any means, lucky to be feathered out, but good starter birds in Heritage Breeds,

I will also have some SQ Naragansett Turkeys but they will be only poults, by sept might have a tom or two available, to raise out.

I am in North MI, in Luzerne, just west of Mio.

Does anyone here in MI have Spangled Russian Orloffs? I have been thinking about getting another breed later this year and decided on the Russian Orloff...just figured I should check into active breeders here in Mi and how difficult it'll be to start a small flock.
Hope everyone is stocked for the snow storm!

I'd like to see another blizzard of 78 type snow! There is no way I'll be able to leave home, (darn) my DH will be out on business(double darn).... snowed in with the whole house to myself (when will it end darn). Come on snow!!!

Saturday, I broke the news to my DH that I got another concert ticket. To put it mildly he wasnt' happy about it.. he was mad that I was going to another show, and that I spent 50$ without talking to him, but before I had told him about the tickets, Friday, he also spent 50$ on something he enjoys, and didn't say a word to me about it... why do DH's think it's ok for them but not us? I couldn't get him to understand my point of view. I work alot of OT, I have a right to some of it, he spends his band money on what he wants... ! So anyway, we worked it out that we each get an allowance, so we have some mad money for things we enjoy.

So after the days drama, DH and I sent 7 roos to freezer camp!

Sunday, I had a nice day with my DSIL, we went to town to a feed/seed store and got some nice chicken boning scissors and a few other goodies. We saw a sign for a free bee keeping clinic next saturday so we'll be going to that too. We got to talking to one of the store workers about bees, so she took us to the attic of their old building (which was way cool) and showed us their roof top hive...guess theres a new trend in urban rooftop bee keeping. Since I want to plant heritage seeds in my garden, and propigate my own future seeds... I think bees would be a no brainer, a necessary tool to have near the garden/pond! Plus the honey and wax! (oh and I drank some honey mead lastnight, that was tastey too!) All in all it was a good weekend.

Picked up some milk and need to fill some gas cans for the coming blizzard of 11! If we do get the snow, and it blows like it's saying, there is no way I'll be getting out to work... my drive is 500 ft long with a deep valley in it the drift will be massive!!! Even the 4x4 isn't going through it and by the time I blow it out.. there's not going to be any sence going to work! Come on Snow!

With our luck, this will be the first time the weatherpeople are right! I know Shellyb has Russian Orloffs. Not sure if they are bantam or not. She had pictures of them on Facebook the other day. You can go on her website of Starbight Farms.

This spring, I will be looking into getting turkeys poults, with the intent of having a tom and 2-3 hens for breeding!

Really kinda like the idea of getting bees. Anyone on here keep bees? If you know anyone who wants to get rid of their hive(s)bees, please let me know! (I've been watching craigs list too).
