I cannot agree with everyone anymore on how AMAZING the weather was today! I had a very productive day today. After my psych test, DH and I went and ran errands all around town, got started on my financial aid for the semester, went and spoke to the realty company about our new potential business, and when we got home I went out to the barn and cleaned the entire thing!! It was looking pretty bad because I hadn't cleaned it out since December-ish. I don't know why spreading pine shavings on the coop floor makes me so happy (and the chickens freak out so much) but it just does. Then DH, DD and I finally got to clipping wings, I had been putting that off since the fall, idk why, it's not like its a difficult thing to do. I was so proud of DD for coming out and helping us, she's only five years old and she was running around trying to catch the hens and holding them upside down for me to clip their wings. So hopefully now our entire barn won't be so nasty bc the chickens won't be able to fly up to the rafters and roost at night.

@FunnyBunnies - When I list my duck eggs on CL I just say that they're "jumbo XL, excellent for baking" and "some with egg allergies have been known to be able to eat duck eggs and have a richer taste." I am actually selling a couple dozen to a family I have whose son is allergic to chicken eggs. $3/dz

So I got to go horseback riding. The district should do this more often!

ooooooooh! Might be able to use some of those boxes!! How much does he want for them???

Good Morning! Can you believe how warm it is out there!! It's 45* here already!!!

I have some baby chicks coming next week and it's been a while since I've had babies so I just want to make sure I have everything in order before they get here....can you let me know if I'm missing anything?

~ hard plastic swimming pool for brooder
~ heat lamp
~ feeder/waterer/food

I'm going to line the bottom of the pool with a layer of pine shavings and them paper towel for the couple days - week. Then I was going to remove the paper towel. I wanted to switch out the pine for kitty litter at some point. I use litter under my roosting pole in the coop and it makes for a super quick clean up in the morning. Is this okay for the little ones or do they need the pine shavings for warmth?

Also, I had read some were in a thread (of course, can't find it now!) that I should add raw apple cider vinegar to their water. I can't remember when or for how long...I want to say it was for the first couple of days? Is that right?

I remember from my last batch of babies that they were fully feathered and out in the coop by 6-7 weeks, but it was just them, no introducing. When can I add these new ones since I will be introducing them into my gang.

Uncle Bubba - Could she be a variation of the "Lemon Blue" everyone has been so excited about this past year? I think there are quite a few people working on that color as a project in a variety of breeds.
