Anyone want duck eggs for that rice (eeww) pudding? lol I hear they're great for custard and my normally "I'll eat anything no one else will" man hates custard. But that's ok, I despise vegetables and especially anything green so it's a fair trade-off

Sam, I didn't get a chance to have your leftover coconut cake, my son ate most all it by the time I left tonight.

And he doesn't like coconut!

What I had at dinner was super! And the rest of the meal was fantastic, as was the company!

Hello, I am brand new to both forums and chickens! I will be ordering our very first chicks sometime soon, but am still trying to decide which breeds would be best up in da UP of MIchigan! I like the idea of bantams since we are in the city of Marquette (which still doesn't legally permit chickens) and because my five year-old loves the idea of being able to handle them easily. But, I'm beginning to think that a larger bird might be more resiliant in our harsh winters up here? Also, I can't seem to find a place to purchase them from since I'm only looking to get four at this time.

HennyPenny and Yooper

Yooper I live in NW Michigan near Traverse City. I have had bantams ok here but used heat lights in winter. Now I am going with winter hearty hens...I have B/B/S Orpingtons and I'm hatching Blue Jersey Giants in May. They both are suppose to be good winters. There is a breed from Canada called Chancelers (I may have spelled that wrong) that is very hearty also.

Welcome from a Congressional Yooper! (We're in the same US congress district)

You may also want to look into Wayndottes or something with a rose comb. Wyandottes were developed in the Great Lakes region.
