I checked the robin nest in my weeping cherry. There were 2 hatched on Mother's day (maybe before) and I've watched them off and on since then. Friday they looked to be feathered pretty well. Today the nest was empty. I think I missed the fledging.

If anyone near the Warren, MI area is interested in free lumber (2X4s & 2X3s) from big shipping crates, I got a whole trailer full from a warehouse at Groesbeck and I696 area tonight. They are trying to get rid of a ton of these crates. A lot of them are broken down into the lumber pieces I mentioned, as well as the large pallet on the bottom. A lot of them are still whole. Anyway, I'm going to be using my lumber to build a chicken run. They aren't first class pieces, but most of them are decently straight. Let me know if anyone wants details on how/where to get them. I might be going back for more myself. Can't beat free!

My husband is in the U.P. on a fish trip now and he gave me strict instructions to take down the suet cake every night or coons will get it. The first day he was gone I spent the day working on the coops and garden and one of the things I did was the hang up the "PEEPERS" which are flashing halloween spooky eyes....around the kennel run. I took in the suet the first night. HOWEVER...the second and third night I FORGOT!

The suet made it through both nights! Since the suet cake hangs about 50 -80 yards from the chicken run and the Peepers face that direction....I am thinking it is scaring off the racoons even at a distance. Now coons are smart...we will see how long this lasts but I am not taking down the suet the whole time my hubby is gone as a experiment!

Good morning everyone-

I am waiting for the feed store to open, I am completely out of feed. There is plenty scattered in the run, but I am out out out. I was trying to make it last until the weekend- but that didnt happen.

I have TWO ducks sitting on eggs, one mama with seven babies, and nine babies in the brooder. And my frizzle is sitting on nine eggs. I am over run.

I am going to rehome heavy this summer. I will keep my frizzle, my sizzle, my goose, and a couple muscovy. Thats it. thats it thats it.

I have NO grass in my backyard. the grass seed is trying to grow, but the goose eats it up.

Its supposed to rain the rest of the week. I wont need grass...maybe I should just stock my backyard with some fish.

I hope you all have a great day. I work afternoons....boo!

I'm about out of feed as well. I'll stop after I do my Docent duty at Matthaei Botancial Gardens. I need chick feed, dog food and I'm thinking of trying to grow their "pasture mix" instead of turf grass. My dogs initially destroyed a big part of the lawn and these chicks and ducks are helping.

Isn't is amazing how just a few weeks changes ones perspective? This morning it's 54 degrees and the weatherman is talking about how cold it is. A month ago he would be referring to it as a warm spell. I guess since it is rainy and "cold" today I will go out and clean up the workshop. My workshop is much to small 28x32 and it doesn't take long before the clutter starts to overcome it. Thanks to the yuppies and soccor moms that dominate our local politics, the building ordinances were changed just prior to my building my workshop. The new rules they enacted limits outbuilding to a total of 900 sq ft so technically my chicken coops are illegal.

It's so nice to be home. triplets are hard to take care of when you're an old girl. I guesss for a young girl too. Here I sit reading about everyone's chickens and gardens instead of working.

Sam, I've never seen a robin make a nest on the ground either. I guess those birds can't read.

Those joints are beautiful on the incubator.

I saw an indigo bunting today. They are around but I had only seen one in the wild once before. Also while I was gone DH saw a Pileated Woodpecker.. imagine that. Neighbor had seen them but now I can't get anything done because I have to bird and chicken watch. homesweethome

Sam, time for some 'old rooster' advice.

I answered an ad on Craigslist for someone who was looking for chickens.
He told me to give him a few days because he was finishing his coop.

His name is Issam Attar.
I just emailed him again this morning to see if he was still interested in taking these bantams. They have started having 'crowing fests' out there in the yard.
I told him I was off work tomorrow and Sunday, if either of those days would work for him.

He replied that he will be my way (he lives in Sterling Heights, I live in Taylor- I must have told him that in my first email) on Saturday around noon to pick them up. Gave me his phone number, said, "I will need an address, but we will talk".

Well, I called my husband to see if he would be home at that time because I am not comfortable having someone come pick them up while I am home alone. But now I am second-guessing having him have my address at all...simply because I gave him two days and he picked one that wasnt even a choice.

Am I just paranoid?

If I am dealing with people I'm nervous about at all, I try to find out what I can about them online. http://pipl.com/search/?FirstName=I...&State=MI&Country=US&CategoryID=2&Interface=1 Searches his name in Michigan. Looks like he is a 65 year old guy. Lots of links to info on there, some may not be him, but I would bet the ones in Macomb County are him. If any of that info makes you feel any better, I don't know. It is reassuring to have an idea of who you are dealing with on Craigslist though.

Edit:
I also looked on the Macomb GIS map for his property. That address has over 3 acres surprisingly for that area. Looks like he definitely could have some room for chickens...
