I NEVER let anyone from Craigslist come to my home for birds...I always meet them elsewhere in a public place.

You may want to consider doing that. Hopefully you haven't given this person your address already.

One of my customers sold a 1968 GTO on Craigslist. When the buyer wanted to see it he was out of town. They hired me to drive the car to the high school parking lot because they didn't want anyone knowing where they lived. It wasn't until after the deal was struck and money had changed hands did they allow the buyer to know where they lived. As I stated caution is never fool hardy.

It's always good to leave snags standing for the woodpeckers, flying squirrels and other critters who make homes in them. I also have owls and hawks aplenty. Only once did I see an indigo bunting and it was the most stunning sight!

Regarding chickens, I think my BCMs are almost large enough to try to integrate with the older flock. This morning all of them had flown out of the brooder and four were out in the run with the other chickens (being bullied, of course) and the other six were in the coop being intimidated by my two smallest hens. Probably will wait another week or so just to be safe.

Regarding Craigslist, I have had good luck selling and buying so far, but am always diligent in giving my neighbor the name, address and phone number of any house I'm going to to pick up a purchase. I have only done that twice and have had two people over to pick up items from my house, but I try to ask questions and get a feel for the type of person I'm dealing with on the phone before any actual contact. If I have any inkling of dishonesty or if the person asks strange or inappropriate questions, I tell them I've changed my mind. I only give my address just before they are to come to pick up the item. The last time anyone from CL came to my house I still had my Dogue de Bordeaux and he was pretty intimidating, so I felt safe with him there. Now he's passed away and I'm not sure I would give out my address any longer.

So, if it's not one thing it's another. Aric was trying to make me two things to put eggs in so they don't roll because I won't use a turner. Well, the hole saw died and he can't find the correct size bit for the drill. Oh and the pump for draining the ponds quit again. Not surprising there since it was already ancient when we started using it. But at least he had already cut the rings out of the pvc pipe for the eggs so I'm using those which is better than the toilet paper/paper towel rolls I was using!

Lockdown for the duck eggs is Friday. I candled them last night. Out of 21 only 1 wasn't any good. Much better than last time! Those little ducklings are feisty too!


I have 4 "farm ducks", 3 drakes and one hen that i need to re-home. Aric picked them up last summer and although they are very nice, I want to either sell them or trade them. They're the only ones I'm not attached to. We were told they are a Swedish/runner mix. The female looks more runner. I will sell them $5 a piece (that's what Aric paid for them) or if someone has something to trade that would work too. Aric says he wants to keep them together if at all possible. They are well mannered and fairly quiet. I probably have pics of them, but that requires looking through thousands (literally!) of duck pics, so I'm going to get individual pics soon if anyone is interested.

1muttsfan, back in 1965 I was stationed in Germany. My first wife joined me and because of the amount of time I spent in the field she often was alone. One day she commented on how many people she would see out walking their dogs and that she wouldn't mind getting a puppy. She had admired the rot langhaarig dackels (red long haired dachhunds) that were quite prevalent in our area. I went out and purchased a ten week old registered female and the breeder filled out the papers and said that they would be sent to me in a few weeks. Our puppy was already assigned a kennel name but we could mail the papers back to reregister with the name of our choice. Carole wanted to call the dog Heidi but I objected because every female dachhund I'd ever met was named Heidi. I suggested we just use what ever name was on the papers when they came. Turns out it was Lustig von Oberthalham. Heidi lived to be seventeen years old.
