Good Morning ALL!

My coffee is still brewin'. Im waiting for a cup- I really need it this morning.

Opa- do you cook the eggs before you smoke them? Is that a dumb question? I was thinkin you boiled them, then smoked them, but then.....Maybe I will drink coffee and ponder it.

Gonna be a hot one today, is the prediction. I need it to dry out the mud. It rained pretty heavy all night again and my lake yard is really swampy. Looks like I have ALGAE growing where there should be grass. heh heh, the toads and frogs like it- so do the ducks. IN fact, its only the people and chickens that dont.

I wanted to have a fire last night- husband asked me if I had lost my mind. Well, yes I have,,several times, whats yer point? OH YEAH...fire pit is under water.

I hope you all have a great day.

Good golly, I wash every egg. It really freaks me out if I don't! I know about the bloom, but seriously, it just came from a bird's posterior. Ack! I have been a veggie most my life, but have been doing eggs these last few years... I don't know. I think I just feel better knowing I've washed them. Our nestboxes get dirty a lot. Sounds like this is something I'm going to have to get over though.

A2- I hear you. We have 8.5 school days left!

I can not wait!

I do have some really good news to announce. After being MIA for 24 hours, our little silkie waltzed into the chicken yard as though nothing had happened. Yay! I couldn't believe it. I have no idea where she was, as she wasn't crying out or anything. The grass in our meadow that is adjacent to the coop is about three feet high already. She had probably been wandering around in it, unsure of which direction she was going in. Who knows. Weird.

I seem to have them coming out my ears.

I have coffee brewing........mmmmmm smells gooood. I get to bury wire today. My DH is brilliant at cutting the invisible fence so am going to try my hand at it. Then I have to get all dolled up for a wedding. So I better get to it!

Henny penny that is such good news about your little hen, I was wondering if she turned up.

My understanding of the washing thing is that washed eggs do not stay fresh as long and are more likely to have bacteria enter, but since I refrigerate all the eggs I collect I don't worry about that too much if they are only lightly soiled. I am going to try the scotch brite pad though. If I do wash eggs I use them within a few days, never hard to do. Maybe I should post a disclaimer about the eggs not being washed, though.

I have found some splash over near ludington area but I got bad vibes about buying from them...I want them to be right...like right color combs and the right number of toes and etc.

So far the count on this hatch is 33! Lots of Polish, a couple showgirls, some speckleds, easter eggers and lots of them I can't really identify because they're not my breeds LOL There's about a dozen more eggs in there and a few of them are working thier way out of the eggs today.

Courtney brought us a couple more Silkies! We now have a blue!! The other one I don't know what color it is but it has 5 toes on one foot and 4 on the other so it will need to leave...any takers?!?!? I also have about 4-5 silkie-mix banties that are ready to go as well. (I live in Holt just south of Lansing)

Im not picky on correct number of toes- BUT- I would like you to tell it that it has to be a girl, or else it cant stay here.

I just went out and planted my cucumbers. I have more- but I dont have anymore dry spots- that was the only compost island that I had. Practically had to swim to it. Mud is ankle deep to get there, I dont know if my feet will ever come clean.

The sun is out- I hope it dries up all the rain..but 'they' are saying we will get storms later.

Jen:
not to myself- I must keep my daughter away from you at ChickenStock. She was looking at your page whilst I was otherwise occupied in the other part of the house. Now that she knows you have "those bunnies with the super-long ears..." I cant trust her not to strike a deal with you while I am not looking.
