Oh, I wanted to go get one or a couple of those so bad when I saw the CL ad! I just didn't think it would fit in the back of my Saturn Vue. You were so smart to get one when you could.

I think he has an endless supply of them from his business. He also built a coop out of them. You need to sweet talk someone with a truck!

Chickens fair much better in hot weather than we do. They originally were a jungle fowl that was domesticated and then the raising of them spread northward. As long as their coop has ventilation they will be fine. I have a fan on a thermostat that kicks on when the temperature reaches 80, but it's more to increase ventilation then cooling. Probably setting up a water mist curtain outside is one of the better things you can do. You can use a cheap garden soaker hose, the one with the tiny pin hole spray, and it will work great. Only use it during the hottest part of the day or you'll create a big mud pit.

My grass is so long I could probably bale it. I will definitely have to run the sweeper over the lawn after its mowed and will have to mow twice. I've been trying to get the weed eating done but the humidity is making 88 feel much worse. I keep having to take iced tea breaks.

Thanks Opa I only faired this hot weather long enough to set up drip buckets for my new bushes and the sprinkler for my veggie garden. Its hot!

Just got home from friends house and a yummy meal with HOMEMADE ice cream. Man that was good on the rhubarb pie I baked!
I wanted to share my BBS Jersey Giants that I started hatching on Thursday and ended yesterday. (ignore the camera date...I need to reset and I'm not too savy on tech stuff)
I love them!

So if there's one thing I can't do, it's sit still. I just got banned to the house for the rest of the night because I'm restless and keep going in and out with leg brace on. I first went out and sat with the ducklings while they took a longer swim, then sat with Bella the pot belly pig giving her snacks and rubbing her belly, her two favorite things. But I'm not looking forward to a few more days of warm weather because an all brick house holds the heat like you wouldn't believe! Right now it's cooler than being outside.

I would absolutely hate to have me for a patient. I'm impatient and don't listen to docs at all lol

Keyt...my husband has had a few health issues on and off through the years and he isn't from Michigan. We moved here after retirement due to a promise he made me when we married 25 yrs. ago...I wanted to return to my home state....Michigan (lived in Florida from 73 to 2003). So we did and he is fine until Jan. and then just cannot take the cold. So we will go to Florida for feb-april and I will have to reduce my chicken numbers down to 13 total...to fit into a 16 foot RV that we are converting into a coop. I'll haul my chickens to a friends for the 3 months I'm away...this is all well and fine but means I am very limited as to how many chickens I keep. So I will keep half Orps and Half Jerseys and I will ship eggs next spring...God willing. Meantime...I will have BBS Orps and Jerseys for sale...both from good breeders...in fact...excellent. The Jerseys are too young for me to know which I will keep and which I won't. If I can make it to Chickenstock ...I'll bring what is requested. If not...you either have to drive 3 hrs. north to here or wait til spring for eggs. My husband will be having a procedure or surgery soon and it may prevent me from Chickenstock. Regardless....anyone interested in BBS Orps or Jerseys...let me know.
Linda
