I understand smoothing mud! I had no lawn last year. I am thankful to have 75% of my grass come in this year. It looks like it will be another warm one today. I opened the coop this morning to see feathers everywhere from one of my older B'Rocks....I hope she is just molting. Her butt is bare and all I can hear in my head is "I.Like.Big.ButtsandICanNotLIEEEE"

I just placed 13 Vorwerk, 8 Spangled Hamburg, and 6 BBS Orpington bantam eggs in the new incubator. Hopefully that hatch well so I will have chicks for Chickenstock.

It sure is going to be nice to be able to see what is going on without all of the contortions that looking through the two small windows in the old Styrofoam one.

I did build the incubator however several days of test running required that I change the fan, to a 3" rather than the 4" that's shown, to better control the humidity.

It's going to be very easy to get pictures of hatching chicks without having to open the incubator. The best part is that my total cash outlay was $38. A friend gave me 2 styrofoam incubators he saw sitting at the curb in someone's trash. I robbed the heating element and thermostat and the wood and alucobond I already had as scrap from other jobs. Had the 4" fan worked the only thing I didn't have was the plexiglass.

I love the fact that you can see into the incubator completely. I have an old hova-bator that works but is kind of icky. My cousin found it in an old barn. I've got lots of time before I will have the need to incubate my own eggs but it seems like it is a rewarding venture.

When I get to that point I am sure I will have tons of questions. Until then, I will enjoy those of you that hatch and share pictures.

Thought I would share my lunch-time story.

I went to the picnic table outside of the hospital where I work to eat my lunch...nice shady spot. Minding my own business when BAM! out of nowhere some horrible devious little sparrow perched its butt above me and let lose the biggest poop ever made by such a tiny bird!

It's lucky I didn't have my 22G cause it would've been eating lead!!

Either that or the fact that I couldn't reach the bottom branches of the tree so that I could climb high enough to be above IT! I glared and threatened its life (once getting back from cleaning up) and all it did was change positions in the tree and chirp its little head off...I took that as this

I told my boss I needed to fill out an occurance report and file for workman's comp...hmmmm...I wonder if her laughter meant yes?

Babigyrl hatching is a terrible addiction for which there is NO CURE. There are many hatch addiction support threads here on BYC (although many claim these are actually enablers trying to addict new victims).

Do you needed some eggs to start practicing on?
