Oooo! And a pretty boy he is, too!

Thanks! All is well here, if the rain would ever stop so I could get caught up anyway... How are you?

Jen, no wonder his name is Pretty Boy. He is gorgeous.

Olive, we actually stopped by there today to check out the sawdust. Not too bad I guess. Glad to see you back!

Opa, I tried to explain to DH that there was a difference and that the stuff we get at the farm store is kiln dried. He still wants to try it, said something about drying it out somehow

I don't like to argue with him. If it works, then great , if not, then he learned an important lesson

I usually put shavings on the poop boards sprinkled with DE and clean it off once or twice a week.

I have a new grandson!

Hopefully he has a name? What a cutie!

I just use straw or hay. Pine shavings are available but mostly for new chicks, or "special occasions". I've seen posts where peoploe swear by sand but I'll pass just because it's so heavy to start with. I can't imagine laying down 100 sqft plus depth. My 6 week old Plymouth Rocks were in the run eating graas for the first time. I hope they got their gizzards full of grit! It was their first time outside. From crumbles to bugs and veggies.

What a beautiful animal! My son Scott had a red Siberian Husky for years and I would often take her out to run. Finally gave up on running a put her in harness and let her pull me on a bicycle. I swear that you could see an expression of joy on her face as she ran. Very well mannered and loving dog, the only down side was that she brought a whole new meaning to the word shed.

Yesterday Hope and I finished pulling the stumps from two Russian Olives, trimmed the dead or dying branches on the White Pines, and hauled all the brush off. She was babysitting her grandson, he turned 2 last February, and it was funny watching him as he insisted on helping Opa. He wanted to be right in the middle of everything I was doing so we just slowed down and let him. Since I was wearing a do-rag of course he had to have one. This grandfather gig is a pretty good deal.

Good Morning!
Cute pup!
Cute lil' guy in that picture, Sam! Granparenting is fun! My stepdaughters little boy is 2 anda half. We have a blast together, and best of all- when Gramma is tired, I get to hand him off to his Mama...lol.

It was rough babysitting him when he still woke up in the middle of the night- this human doesnt do well with 2 a.m. feedings any more, but thats what my teenage daughter was for. I thoughly enjoyed waking her up to feed him in the middle of the night (mental birth control?)...

But now, he is potty trained and pretty cool. Enjoy him, they grow up even faster than our own kids did.

I watered my mud this morning. I have to believe that some of the grass seed I put down is in there somewhere. Fifteen pounds of grass seed cannot be ALL gone.

Work this afternoon- but until then, I think I will drink my coffee outside and watch my goose be a goof.

Have a great day, everyone.

I've been thinking about the same thing. I am SO tired of mud. Here's my continuing thoughts on using sand (subject to change, of course. I keep going back and forth). I wanted to use sand in the run, not the coop, because I thought it would drain better. But... then the poop wouldn't compost on site, and I would be left with sandy poop to scoop, add to my compost, and ruin it with sand. Also, when I add a lot of straw (and lately shavings) when it gets muddy or smelly, I am creating what's called Deep Litter. I finally got the run covered and dry again, and I raked it up yesterday and boy, was it deep! I also noticed that it didn't smell, had a lot of worms living in it, and absolutely no flies. Apparently in deep litter, there are fly predators that keep the fly numbers down. I do have flies hatching out in the coop itself, because that isn't a living microcosm, because I scoop the poop out. In my brooder, I also do a dry deep litter with shavings and it doesn't smell at all. Not a bit and I think I have a sensitive schnoz. There's a sticky about deep litter methods on the coop and design page. I think I'll stick to forking it out in the spring and compost it. It sounds gross, but it is actually really clean. It just needs to stay on the dry side. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind again!

Good Morning Everyone!

I've convinced my hubby to install dropping trays.

Thanks everyone for your input. I appreciate it!

RIRJen...what a handsome boy!

I gave my girls a huge plate of some salad greens and veggies yesterday during lunch for the first time. They looked so happy.

Now I must start on my day. Maybe I will go down for breakfast first....

Thanks for the comments on my new grandson. They are thinking about naming him Triton. At least my son knows what he is in for since we already have a husky.
Opa, I have wanted to get our husky a harnes and teach him to pull too, just haven't done it yet. He is a red siberian too. And fot the shedding, only once a year... all year long

DH will brush him out in the yard and then we will watch the birds gather up lots of fur to build their nests with.

Your grandson is adorable. It is so great that they like to help like that and even greater that you let him help. Someday I will have a human grandchild.

babigyrl, that is wonderful about the dropping trays. I am sure you will be happy with them. Makes it so much easier to clean.

I love it. He is really cute. My dogs are my kids (currently). I am sure our parents have given up on us having children. I just may surprise them one day, God willing
