I'm sad to announce that my adorable chicken who's been riding on my bashboard for 3 yrs now has passed away...((heehee)) He lost an eye about a year ago and now his comb has fallen off! I've always enjoyed my dashboard chicken and I hope to try to get a new one this year at Chickenstock ((looks hopefully at Opa))

Hey saddina, aren't you going to miss the ocean and all the California stuff when you move to Michigan? Not to mention our 6-month-long winters? Forgive me for asking and please tell me if I'm being too personal, but aren't you afraid of being in deep water if you don't have the use of your legs? I mean, what if you capsize?? Deep water scares the poop out of me, and I can swim OK. Anyway, so glad you've joined us on this thread and looking forward to meeting you at next year's Chickenstock!
That;s a fair question. I spent my summers in the desert, so i'm comfortable here, but mr saddi has been overheated since i mooved him out here after 10 years, it's his turn to be comfortable. Winters... yeah that'll be new, honestly, I work online, and schedule postial pickups, so I actually don't need to leave the house. The kids are homeschooled and mr saddi wirks online as well. so i expect we'll not go out much, we don't now. The water thing, I started surfing at 10, i'm just as comfortable in water as on land. Took about a year to relearn how to swim (I use a modified back stroke and tread as needed. it's slow, but i can get myself in/out and around. Last summer a kid was going under at the community pool, I was the only adult, and went in after him. I got him out, to the edge and dragged out, but needed 2 weeks of bedrest after. If i capsize, i flip back up on the board. We'll most likely take a vacation in mid spring for a week or so to somewhere warm (work has a holiday surge).
Thanks saddina, I'm really not the nosey type, but you sound like such an interesting person I couldn't help asking a few questions. You are so kind to not take offense. You'll probably be like me and just hibernate for the winter. I hate going out in the cold, but now that I have chickens I'll have to do it at least a couple of times a day!
will be at chickenstock? This GUY! I also raise BCM's, but they are still too young to lay eggs. I am not quite positive if I will have any seramas for chickenstock, but you never know.

Hi Theron, you are the closest to me yet that I've found on BYC. You don't happen to know of anybody closer that Birch Run who raises Chanteclers do you? Maybe I'll find some at chickenstock, but then again, maybe not. Nice to meet someone closer.

We used to raise Chanteclers, but then my uncle bought all of them because we needed the room for other breeds. My uncle then raised them for a while and a predator wiped out the whole flock. Sorry, I don't know anyone else who raises Chanteclers.

Oh man, I want (more like need) a couple serama hens and BCMs!!! But I'm still not sure we'll have the money to go. Aric says we should just go anyway but I told him I can't go unless I have money to spend on chickens and other stuff. So far no luck.
The only good news of the day is chicks that I had planned on taking to chickenstock are now pipping.
