Yup, THATs the one I knew of in Birch Run, I may have to stop there and see what he has on the way home. If I don't find anything at Chickenstock. I'll be wanting them no more than 8 weeks old.
Maybe I best get prepared and print up a map to his place.

You could also try this web site. http://chanteclerfanciersinternational.org/ The club's president is from MI but I think that he lives in the Upper Peninsula. A little far for you maybe. And I do not know him or what he may raise. He is an APA Judge.

I don't think I'm closer to you, but I raise buff Chantecler. I've got some 10 week old youngsters that I'll be selling once I can tell who's who and what's what.

I'm not sure what quality you're looking for, though. Mine are exhibition quality...Rennolet and Gilbert lineage.

Here they are... Pretty sure they are roosters.

Especially this one:

The trio.

This is the shortest of the tails:

Do yours look like this? Their combs and waddles look like my other older hens, so that didn't mean much to me. The hackles, tail feathers, and emerging iridescent feathers do, though.

And as an aside, this little guy finally propped himself up on his hock. That's the only improvement we've seen. I don't think the leg will ever work again, but he may have some movement if he can use his hock for support.

Oh WOW, you have the Chanteclers? Well the buff might be something cool to have. I was going to look for something in a light golden color and/or white at Chickenstock. I know theres a guy in Birch Runwho breeds them. I'm interested in helping the birds that are rare and after looking over all the varieties thought "Chantecler" because they are so cold tolerant and Michigan is COLD.
I'd seen them in Frankenmuth this spring, but was not ready for birds yet, still making houseing and stuff. Hadn't won over the DH yet was the real reason.

We'll have to talk.

Here is my BO roo. This group is 8 weeks old and the male started showing his comb about 2 weeks ago.

While I'm at it, got this shot of one of the leghorn roos.

Did not want leghorns, they were mislabled at TSC, but ended up with 2 males and 1 female. Most likely they will end up in the BBQ coop.
Most likely, I'll let the male BO and male black australorp stay as long as they behave.

That;s a fair question. I spent my summers in the desert, so i'm comfortable here, but mr saddi has been overheated since i mooved him out here after 10 years, it's his turn to be comfortable. Winters... yeah that'll be new, honestly, I work online, and schedule postial pickups, so I actually don't need to leave the house. The kids are homeschooled and mr saddi wirks online as well. so i expect we'll not go out much, we don't now. The water thing, I started surfing at 10, i'm just as comfortable in water as on land. Took about a year to relearn how to swim (I use a modified back stroke and tread as needed. it's slow, but i can get myself in/out and around. Last summer a kid was going under at the community pool, I was the only adult, and went in after him. I got him out, to the edge and dragged out, but needed 2 weeks of bedrest after. If i capsize, i flip back up on the board. We'll most likely take a vacation in mid spring for a week or so to somewhere warm (work has a holiday surge).

Thanks saddina, I'm really not the nosey type, but you sound like such an interesting person I couldn't help asking a few questions. You are so kind to not take offense. You'll probably be like me and just hibernate for the winter. I hate going out in the cold, but now that I have chickens I'll have to do it at least a couple of times a day!

Such a nice way to say "your freeking nutty".

I'm an oddball in socal, i'm sure i'll stick out in mich even more. I spent a summer as a carnie once (knife jugglier's "assistant" (target) and learned to throw.
