If I took offense at being reminded that I am old we wouldn't have a mirror in the house. Although I do think that mine does have the ability to deceive me. Many times I will see someone I know to be my age and think he looks alot older than I do and all the while he's probaby thinking "he sure looks older than me".

Just the other day I was looking at my hands. Thin skin, wrinkles, calluses, bruises and thought "how did I suddenly get my Dad's hands"?

I checked a little while ago and 14 Welsummers have hatched so far and the bantams are starting to pip. This little guy is 30 minutes old.

I have one spangled hamburg egg that is totally zipped but hasn't moved in over 4 hours. Hope it's just sleeping and building up for the final push.

Our roosters are all named "that pain in the a** rooster of yours" because they're all Aric's and won't ever shut up. Seriously! Except for my little serama roo, he's named Pretty Boy because he walks around like he knows pretty and no one (not even the huge loud mouth BLRWs) messes with him, and all the ladies (even the huge cochins) love him!

All the ducks have names of course because they're mine lol

SHE STOLE them!!

I posted how I put the six baby mallards outside in a pen last night- whoo hoo...everyone read that right?

Well i have one female mallard that was here last year and returned. She used to come with her mate- but for the past two weeks, it has only been her.

I just now came home from work and they are out in my pond with her.

I thought maybe she brought her own babies here...went and checked- my pen is empty with NO way to escape out unless they climbed the hardware cloth straight up.

How did she get them?

Someone give me a guess.

AND Mallard Mama has made my life SOOOOOO much easier now. yay her!

She has been hanging around here for months.

She remembered right where I kept the food dishes.
She was sitting on eggs two doors down- but when we had all that rain, it flooded out her nest.
She is welcome to them.
HOWEVER- she has them in my pond, which I declared off-limits after all the work I put into cleaning it out. lol

I love my daughter so much!

She and her bf went fishing this morning at 7 a.m. in the rain. Left them at the park, they were to walk home.

Instead, she walked to my mother-in-laws and checked on her, left their poles there and went to the mall. This is all fine with me.

Called me from the mall and she got called into work. She is a peer educator and counsels kids on not doing drugs, drinking, or having sex.

She calls me about a half hour later and says she is at the police department.

Then says, "here"...hands the phone to an officer who introduces himself to me. Asks my permission to take my daughter to various party stores to buy cigarettes- so they can bust the stores that sell to her.
Sure, I tell him...but first can you throw her in a cell and leave her there- for giving me a heart attack? lol

She doesnt even look her age of fifteen, much less eighteen- so any store that sells to her deserves to get fined.

He shows up here at my house, and I had to sign a permission slip. Dumb kid brings the officer right into the backyard where I am sitting with my illegal ducks and chickens and goose. He didnt say a word.

However, my stupid dog is barking like a raging rabid vicious creature through the screen door. Officer says, "what kind of dog IS that?" I go, "Who Yogi? He just sounds mean, really he is a big ole teddy bear who would welcome a robber into my home and show him where we keep everything..." "honest"...

dog would NOT shut up at all...even with me telling him to- and he really IS a giant goofball.

With Opa and Mish's encouragement...I took the plunge and removed the divider in the coop so the 8 wk older can be free to mingle with the almost 5 wk. chicks. They all were so sweet together at night...pressed up to the divider I thought the sweetness would continue. WRONG. Let the pecking order begin! I only have 5 English orps...I have 13 Jersey giants. Still...the one Blue Orp was pretty nasty going after the younger ones. Plus...suddenly the older ones want the younger ones food (which is the same) and their water. I put a turned upside down box in the coop with a cut out opening big enough for a smaller chick to go in...not the bigger one. If desperate...they could go there. I think it will be ok I have practically lived in the coop today. I have choir tonight so will be gone for a few hours but will check again around 9pm. None of the little ones ventured outside but several stopped at the pop door and stayed there eyeing freedom. So....keeping my fingers crossed my babies will be alright!
Congrats on the babies Opa...this is with your new homemade incubator??

Anyone in the Muskegon area right now we are getting pounded, ayuh! The storms are awesome to say the least. I just made it to the coop to shut the doors. I know my rabbit is NOT liking the thunder. It's raining so hard my rainbarrel looks like an outboard engine throwing a rooster tail:p
