I let my guinea fowls out this morning and went shopping. I seen the storm hitting so I hurried back and my guineas are gone, no where to be found. They are last year hatchings and they may go in the back, but they have never went far. I have corn up around me right now and I went up and down the road and can't find them. Anyone out there have guineas, do they come back at night to roost? They have never left like this before.

She looked fine this morning. My neighbor saw her all huddled up in the corner of the run all by herself during the bad storm today. I am not sure what happened. She was one of our original chicks that my niece picked out. My husband will be upset .....I haven't the heart to tell him yet.

I buried her beneath one of my young cherry trees.

Thats a nice place to bury her. I buried alot of my hens in the front garden. I like to think they are dust bathing, eating bugs and clucking away together in their favorite spot.

I agree with you KrisRose, a garden or a blossoming tree is a good place to bury them. Sorry Babigyrl for your lost.

Thank you everyone. You all are super sweet. I wish I understood why she didn't seek shelter from the storm. She was such a sweet girlie. :: sigh ::

I had a cochin who never went in when it stormed. Many times I would have to run out there and save her from a huge storm as she stood soaking wet in the middle of the yard looking confused about what was happening. Very sorry about your loss, babigyrl.

One came back so I hope he calls them home. It is odd that there is only one. I hope I didn't just wipe out all my adult guineas. I am use to chickens and they may go into the corn but they don't go far.

Hurray, power is back on. Lots of branches down but no damage. Chickens weathered the storm just fine.

Only lost about 8 hours of homework time.

Hope everyone who saw storms got through them alright.

We had 2 lines of storms blow through this morning. A really bad, windy storm at round 8:00AM then a second line that just caught us in its northern edge so me missed that bad stuff. I went outside to check on the chickens after the first storm went through and the big girls had taken shelter under the deck and were back out free ranging. The little ones are in the run during the day now and my son had put them in the coop when the storm hit. They were back out in the run and everything looked okay. I went back to work and when the second line started to come through I went to put the little guys back in the coop and couldn't find the big girls. Then I noticed that the fence gate had been blown open during the first pass. I went in the front and looked around and didn't see the girls and it had really started to come down so I went back inside until the rain let up. Then my daughter and I went out searching the neighborhood for the escapees. Luckily they only made it to the next door neighbor's yard where he has a big garden and some nice wooded areas. We were able to herd them all back home and no harm was done. I did prop a shovel against the outside of the gate to, hopefully, keep it from blowing open again. I'm going to have to rebuild that gate. I have nothing but trouble with it!
