I too am one of those odd people that likes to hear a rooster crow. Heck, I love hearing my friend's peacocks screech when I visit.
None of that will happen as long as I live here in the city.
I need to be in the country.
Montana might be big enough.

*raises hand* Me! I'm just north of GR, too. I just got my first chicks this spring and am having a lot of fun. The people here have been very helpful. Welcome to BYC!

I am north of GR, in Newaygo.

Wow, Hillbillycitygirl, do you know Hillbilly Hen? You guys are close? I am very close to SJ3364. Just 2 miles! It is so nice to have a chicken friend!

That is where I am originally from. The Big Sky Country!! Beautiful State. I miss the mountains, but I sure do have a lot of beauty here in northeast Michigan. And the UP is spectacular!! I love Michigan, but Montana will always be home.

Montana/Wyoming is beautiful - Big Horn Mountains! God gives beauty everywhere! And good things to eat also in each climate!

Yes, I do know Hillbilly Hen, I met her a few weeks ago, she gave me a dozen fertile eggs and a free lavender orpington cockerel. Hes so cute!!! I dont know SJ3364.....

It was a wonderful wet day. My only complaint being that I did not get out to pick green beans before the rain started soooo I will wait until the plants are dry lest I rist that nasty rust developing. Which means they are going to be huge beans. Guess I will have to can this batch.

The pekin duck has received a stay of execution as my DD could not bring herself to part with him. Gotta love those young tender hearts. The beakless D'Anver has nearly got his beak back to match the bottom one. Very cool we are hoping to take him to fair the end of August.

Welcome to our new comers. I used to live in Grand Rapids. It was great fun while I was young.

Have never been successful at the deep liter method, but like OPA use a kitty little scoop, poop boards and clean out every other month. It seems to do the job. In this heat I have sprinkled DE in the coop to keep things dry and deter the flies.

Regarding storing eggs, though I refrigerate quickly most days, I know in the Day before ice boxes those eggs sat in a wire basket on the counter. It's amazing isn't it, they survived! Funny how we freakout over things. Be careful not to sanitize youselves right out of a healthy immune system.

Lots of fun topics, nite guys.

Ideally, I would like to live at least a half hour drive from my nearest neighbor. That's not likely to happen.
The next best thing would be to have neighbors that understand and put up with my idosyncristies (Spelling?).

I like that this BYC forum connects us together. I appreciate the support that I've found here.

For example, Nigellas took my BOs when my neighbor got wiggy. After a few weeks, my neighbor calmed down (somewhat) and Nigellas gave me back the BOs. What a generous thing to do for someone you've never met. Foster-mom or baby-sitter? Either way, the folks on this forum are good neighbors.

I'm glad to be part of this community.
