*raises hand* Me! I'm just north of GR, too. I just got my first chicks this spring and am having a lot of fun. The people here have been very helpful. Welcome to BYC!
Me also, I'm near Plainfield and 131! Welcome!
I live north of Grand Rapids, too. I'm not all that new to chickens or BYC, but I moved from the Michigan Tri-cities area to here just last November for my husband's job. We live near 10 mile a few miles West of 131. I have actually met sj3364
because I ended up volunteering at Equest center for therapeutic horseback riding the same evening as her.
I have checked out this Michigan thread before, but I often get a little overwhelmed by the many topics being discussed at once that I haven't posted til now.
I have a couple questions for folks in the general area ( and you all from Newaygo can chime in, too.)
Are their any vets in the area who see chickens?
When we lived on the east side of the state (in Freeland) we were a 45 minute drive from a vet who would see chickens, so we learned to do some medical care ourselves. Too bad for us that Doc Frye is in East Michigan.
Where do you like to get chicken feed?
I'm getting feed at Family, Farm & Home now. (a lot of their feed is on sale this week) I find that their prices are better than TLC, but I was wondering if any grain elevators in the area are good for chicken feed or water fowl feed, etc.
