what will ya do with the OLD one, sell it???? (wishful thinking going on in my head)

I don't have a bad skeeter problem and I live within about 6-8 miles of Saginaw Bay. But that fly catching thing I bought from TSC and hung out in the c oop hasn't caught one fly!! They land on the outside of the jug, but don't go IN the jug. Im taking it back and getting something different.
We got 1.57" total rainfall the other night in the storm that went thru. All the growing stuff popped like crazy, including weeds.

Well, we have looked all over for more hens to take in. After giving some to my best friend and selling some to go to chickenstock, our egg supply was low. So we answered an ad for 7 hens and a rooster. They are all lovely! Unfortunately we can't keep the rooster despite him being absolutely gorgeous. I'll post pics of everyone tomorrow and hopefully (doubtful) someone here would want the rooster.

Anyway, we drove all the way out there. He had 4 pullets, 3 hens and a rooster. We spent 2.5 hours chasing chickens all over 10 acres!!! We even waited for them to roost for the night, but he said the pullets go anywhere. UGH! Well, we ended up leaving minus 3 of the pullets because we just couldn't find them. They free ranged and he tried throwing out food but he said he's had the same bag of food for 3 months because he didn't think they still had to be fed. Not only that he didn't know you could carry chickens upside down, he thought Aric was hurting them. GRRR.

What an adventure! So we figure we need about 5 more chickens and we'll be at the amount we want. If anyone knows of someone selling some standard size hens or pullets please let me know.

Oh and the ducks are finally starting to lay eggs again!! And today we got 6 eggs, so it looks like chickflick's idea (I think it was her) of feeding them oiled sunflower seeds works, along with the hotdogs. It's good because this is the weekend that we have our regular egg customers!!

to the newbies!! Hope you like it here as much as we do!!

Sigh, anyone know the laws regarding Hawks in Michigan?, lost a Delaware yesterday covering the rest of the run today, there isn't a sign of her so I am pretty sure it was a hawk, leaving my dogs out with the chickens today till I get the run covered this afternoon. I have been worried about racoons and skunks and did not even really think about hawks, lesson learned.I'll call the DNR and ask also. Feels like crap loosing one .

I believe federal and state law forbid you from killing a hawk so you are doing the right thing by covering the run. Sorry for your loss though

You should also call the DNR to see if there is something you can do.

ugh, didnt even think about a hawk either. I dont see that many even though we are out in farm country, but we have three dogs that are out with my chickens at any given time and hopefully that will keep most of the pests away.

Still waiting for eggs. I wish I knew how old my birds were? I was reading on another thread and a lady was hoping she had 4 pullets and 1 roo, come to find out she posted pics and it was the opposite from what others could tell, 4 roo's and 1 pullet... now I am starting to think I could have the same dumb luck. One of my birds has a nice red comb started the others are in two different stages? If I can get pics while they are roosting tonight I will post tomorrow for all of your thoughts... UGH I might have to go find me some hens!
