Anyone in Livingston County area that can help me get started?? I am new (Arlene); I own chickens and goats in Howell near Cohoctah; and REALLY need help with the laws. Who do I need to contact regarding/reporting GAMPS?? I have nasty neighbors and need to have all my ducks in a row.

Wierd stuff going on around here last night. Around 10:30 p.m. the dogs went out and treed something in the woods beside my house. Two of them came in but Sachi just sat and stared up into the trees and would not come in. I went out to get him and heard the dogs across the street in the gravel pit barking like crazy. It was an excited urgent warning bark. Then I heard another sound like an animal in distress. It wasn't a fox this time either. I brought my dogs in and stood at the kitchen window listening. I heard dogs further off start barking and then gun shots. Hearing guns around here is not unusual. This is hickabilly heaven and they shoot all the time, but not so much at night. Then two police cars drove by shining their spot lights into the gravel pit. The dogs kept it up for a long time. My neighbor said her dogs were crazy to go over to the gravel pit to see what was going on. Don't know what it was but I had visions of an escaped convict prowling the area. Kind of creeped me out for a while.

Welcome Arlene! Nice to have you with us. Opa lives in Howell and could probably give you some advice. I used to live in Gaines about 12 years ago, which is not far from Cohoctah.

awww cute baby.
I went out in my barnyard and found my favorite Jersey Giant, 8 week old chick dead. No apparent reason. I thought of her as an underdog cause she always seemed slow and didn't care if I picked her up, sat back and let her rest upon my chest, she let me rub the top of her head with my finger and she'd close her eyes like she was enjoying it and not in any hurry to jump down and run away. Now I wonder if something was wrong with her all along because she was that way. ?? I'll never know I guess so I can't ponder it.
The other Jersey I got at the same time, was always up running around, craned her neck looking around and curious about everything, but not the one that died. She often sat still and seemed to not notice life going on around her. I'll miss her.

Maybe your hen just had something wrong with her? I guess we will never know if we get a weak one, what exactly is wrong internally, but it could be many things. I would not worry about my other chickens. Sounds like that one was just given a shorter life! At least you made that life a good one! God bless.

I haven't been on for a few days- hope all is well with everyone.

Mom2emAll- you & yours are in our thoughts.

Keyt: http://geyerfarmservice.com/ is the auction link- I know there are others but this one is every Sat. (like I said before- they tend to go cheap there- but they are gone at that point)

Hmmmmmmm....I know THAT feeling ...living somewhat isolated on a "seasonal" road. When my DH goes off on hunting or fishing trips I keep the gun handy. (that should take care of that 'creeped" feeling.
