WELCOME!! Is that one of your chickens in your photo? It sure is cute!

Yes, that is one of my girls. I have 11 and one Roo. The pic was taken when she was about 8 wk. old. She now is 19 wks. and just started laying. Thanks for the welcome!!

I'm sure it was either a coon or a stray cat. I have lots of coons and every once in awhile a cat comes through. He just gets fixated on squirrels and anything that can climb a tree. Good thing he can't or I'd really have problems!

I have one little d'uccle hen who is 2 years old. She has always been a sneezer. I don't think my 9 other chickens ever sneezed, but she has always sneezed a couple times a week. It is very cute. She makes a 'squeak', shakes her head, her body gives a little shake and then off she goes.... just a sneeze. I usually say 'bless you!' to her. She has never been ill.

this gives me relief, I always fear Im going to hear a sneeze and then worry myself to death.

Well, good news is, I sold the 4 Swedish ducks. 3 drakes and a hen. The drakes just wouldn't leave everyone else alone and they were stressing the other ducks out. Sad thing is I think they were dinner at some restaurant tonight. An oriental man showed up in a very fancy Lexis, put the ducks in an extremely small box (they had to lay down!) and took off. I almost said no. But those drakes were so bad that it was either they went to that guy or we had to cull them ourselves. I tried in every way I could for 2 months to find them a home where they'd be pets but no one took them. It hurt when the guy drove away with them when I was pretty sure where they were going, but when I saw how relaxed the girls were, I felt better. Getting rid of those drakes were to help my other ducks!

NOW, to find homes for 3 roosters. If anyone is interested, PLEASE let me know. 9 roosters is getting on my nerves!!

Although I could use the money for them (I even said on my ads just bring me a bag of feed for each lol), I will give them to anyone here that wants them!!

You did the right thing Keyt. Those drakes were dangerous. I know it must've been hard, though. I sure hope you can be relieved of your unwanted roosters soon. Then you can put your efforts toward the rest of the flock.

I know, I just didn't want to do that to them. But when I let everyone out to graze tonight after the guy left, they were SO much better. I still have 4 drakes left but they are good boys. They have normal drake behavior. The Swedish constantly chased every girl they could, but the worst part was when all 3 of the drakes would wait til a female was in the water and they'd tag-team her. One would hold her head, another her neck and the other would do the duty. They would do this all day long!!!

Now, the roosters I have are another story. They're not mean like the drakes were, but I have a lot hens with bare backs. One of my BR hens is almost completely naked. She still lays and acts normal but she has sores on her wings and she's bare on her back and butt.

In fact, if someone wants her, she's free too. Like I said, she still lays and I wouldn't get rid of her, but she has no way to heal because I have nowhere else to put the roosters. I feel SO bad for her!! She's small for a BR but she loves to free range, she stays right near me and she loves to roll in the dirt. She never causes trouble, I just want her to heal and she never will as long as I have these roosters!!

Good Morning everyone.

thank you everyone for the prayers, hugs and well-wishes. They mean so much to me.

Keyt, no not that brother. He is doing fine, living in Indiana now. My baby brother is the one who has cut off his family- including my mother, based on false accusations made by his wife about my daughter. Theres not an element of truth to what she told him, but he has told my mother that none of us will ever see him or his kids again. Hes a truck driver, so he only knows what she tells him- and he believes every single thing she says. Her goal has been to keep him away from his family, and she has won. Its like crushing my heart. We have done nothing but love him and his kids. For all of his 26 years. I dont know how he could believe what she has said- and always wondered why he couldnt 'grow a pair' now and then and put his foot down on some things, but now he has severed ties in a way that cannot be repaired. I worry most about my mom-her spirit is broken.

Im off work today- kids have a dentist appointment. Think I can give him this little cockerel as our copay? It would almost be worth it just to see his receptionists face when I walked in with the turken....

Keyt, from your description of how your hens are looking you need to immediately remove the roosters from your flock. Pen the roosters in a separate enclosure and if they fight it is still preferable to allowing them to continue to use the hens to the point of sores.
