I am so sorry to hear about everyone else's predator trouble. MrsChickenDad, that sure was a terrible loss. I know dogs are a particularly devastating predator. Some have the instinct to hunt but most have lost the instinct to eat what they kill which is devastating to a flock of birds. I still don't know what got my silkie. I have seen a pair of shining eyes on the night vision of the surveillance camera every night under the edge of my privacy fence. There is a chain link fence behind that so it would have to climb over top and so far hasn't. But the girls are safe in their new coop so I don't worry too much but am curious as to what it was.

Hey everyone...listen......LISTEN.....

THE ROOSTERS ARE GONE!!!!!!!!!!

Aric feels better now because they went to an old guy a few houses down the road where he has lots of other animals and he can free range on a LARGE property and won't get eaten!!!

Best part for me is the half of the noise around here is GONE!!! One of the two BLRWs that have been driving me insane since January, crowing non-stop all day are GONE!!!

Wow, go away for a couple of days and it takes a while to catch up here. We went to the Ren Fest yesterday. We alyays go on a Friday and spend the night, then spend Saturday in the park and go home after. We left early yesterday since it started raining. I was tired anyway.

Sorry for the losses

Good job Keyt on finding a new home for the roos.

How nice! I hope I can find homes for mine too. My two wild boys were causing so many problems yesterday that today I put them in the chick run that is not being used so that they couldn't harass anyone.

I spent the morning with my son at the county fair getting four chickens and two guinea pigs settled in. My son is also trying showmanship for the first time this year. I'm just not to excited about the drive in everyday to care for all the critters. We did have a very nice comment. The ladies that check over the birds for health before they can enter told us we had the cleanest chickens they had seen.... and here I was feeling guilty we didn't have time to give them baths before they went!

I know I don't pop in here often...
but I thought I'd let everyone know, my white Silkie roo is up for sale/trade on NM craigslist.
Figured I'd let the chicken people know!
^_^

Question: For those of you that have silkies. I believe mine have started to lay (Yes!!) However they are laying their eggs on the floor of the coop (Crap!!) I have floor level nesting boxes for them (with golfballs). How can I get them to lay their eggs in the designated nest box area?? Even my other pullets got the hint and are laying in the nest boxes.
