Poultry math can get rather complicated. Especially after you have had chickens for a while you will find that your math skills have evolve into the rather difficult and complex branch of poultry math called chickenometry. It consists of a lot of timeses and goesintos and lots of three digit numbers.

I have never been very good at any kind of math. Right now I am unsure of just how many chickens I have - every time I count them I seem to come up with a different number (possibly a way of being in denial).

Raz, my hens caught a mouse one day when I had them out of the pen - it lasted maybe a few seconds, then was ripped to shreds and consumed on the spot

. I think they though it was a big bug.

Nice! Not sure I would have wanted to witness the kill but that's a good way to keep mice at bay.

I finally put up a BYC page with pictures of my girls and my coop. Fun Fun....

MrsChickendad - Oh no...I am so very sorry to hear this! I do hope you are ablet to somehow rebuild your flocks...I wish I could offer help in that way! If there's anything I can do, please let me know!

Bethanyrae - It was great to see you Saturday! Hope your gals didn't stink up your van on the way home (for those of you who don't know, Bethanyrae has a serious issue with chicken poo!) - you were cracking me up!

Hope everyone is doing fantastic after such a lovely weekend! We spent a ton of time in downtown Flint at the Back to the Bricks celebration - we have a 1931 "rat rod" (DH's hobby) so he was in heaven looking at all the fancy schmancy cars! HUGE deposit in the marriage bank by me this weekend. Hmmm...timing MIGHT be right to ask for another coop!

Glad you had such a wonderful time, Wynette! And I've been thinking about your Jersey coop. I'd like something set up like that one. And I might get some olive eggs from you some time....
And yes...the poo was an issue at first. But once the van started moving they sat down.

My daughter came along as I'm trying to spend as much time with her as I can before she goes back to school in a couple of weeks, and she's not really into chickens. Especially the stinky part. (Yet...hehe)

Wynette, You think that cracked you up....you should have seen us pull over at the rest area to change drivers. Racing around the van to get it moving again before they stood up and pooped again. We do have fun!

Sorry to hear about the losses of birds. I don't have any extras unless someone wants a teenage EE cockeral with hormone overdrive.
I have a friend looking for a home for his EE roo (5 or 6 years) he says is very nice. I may have to send mine to freezer camp and take his. Training these new roos is hard work.

The fair check in here in oceana county is tomorrow with the fair starting Wednesday. If anyone is in the area of Hart, MI stop in. The extension office says we all (chicken crazies) have filled the barn to capacity and spilled over to the rabbit area with the market birds. Hope there are a lot of breeds shown this year.

Today my DD is picking things from the garden to exhibit, is decorating a cake right now, and later Adventures in Chicken Washing. I had to leave the kitchen because we are driving each other crazy.

"Adventures in Chicken Washing" - you know, that would be an awesome title for a movie or book!
