I can kick myself a 1000 times whenever I see these.

My grandfather had a ton of them. When my Aunts & Uncle had an auction after my grandparents passed away, some lady was on those like a fly on poop! I knew I should of took them the night before!! O'well maybe there's still a few tucked in the barn somewhere....wishful thinking!!

My in-laws have a dairy farm, and nothing really gets thrown away. I am constantly combing through the old garage, the tool shed and the basement for things. I have brought home so much stuff and redone them or repainted to make them look nicer.

I need to post some pics.

I also have several old items from my grandparents farm throughout my home & yard. It is always so cool to refurbish old items for everyday use and I think they have that extra "priceless value" especially if it was used long ago by a special family member!!

I was fortuine to have both the 12 dozen crate (as shown in the link) and a 6 dozen crate given to me a few years ago. The smaller is complete with the cardboard egg holders but the larger was empty. It does however make an excellent place to store my poultry magazines. Both are Humpty Dumpty Egg Crates made by Owosso Manufacturing, Owosso, MI.

I will plant in a couple of weeks. Your supposed to plant them 6 weeks before the ground freezes. I have a call in to Mother Nature to see what her schedule looks like.

OooOo....I am planting shallots too.

This past weekend I had a LOT of my crocheted items at the Tompkins Center Freedom Festival. There were several tables with antiques which I absolutely LOVE because I grew up around thousands of dollars in antiques in my family's home. There were also many antique cars, tractors and steam engine tractors. OMG, you would have thought I was given a million dollars I was so excited!!!

Recently Aric brought home some old photos his uncle and mom had. I have always known where I live has been in his family for 100 yrs. We have two houses here, one that's over 100 yrs old, one that's about 70 yrs. But seeing the photos was absolutely fascinating. Everything was new! We live in the little house because the big one needs a little more remodeling (which requires money!), but the pics show when this house had everything brand new and shiny! Plus NO houses across the street, just one barn. I loved seeing the photos of Aric's mom when she was a little girl, the old cars, buildings in town when they were new or being used for schools instead of apartments, etc.

A funny story about antiques though. My mom went to every antique show she could. When I was 4, a year before my first brain surgery my mom had taken me to one of those shows. I picked up a wooden toy and started laughing and yelled "I REMEMBER THIS!!!". I had never seen one before. A couple of months later, I went up to an old corn husker at another show and began describing how to use it...again, I had never seen one before. My mom, being a registered nurse, thought it was just something normal because she always knew before I was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus that there was something wrong with me neurologically, and the brain acts funny in cases like that. Fast forward a few years later after my first 4 or 5 brain surgeries we were at another antique show and someone was playing an old record and I began singing it, word for word. That's when my mom freaked out!! lol.

Looking at these old family photos Aric brought home has brought on the same feeling of 'I've been there before'. But finally someone didn't laugh at me when I started talking about it to Aric and his mom!! I think it's why I love living here so much. I never felt comfortable living in the wealthy community I grew up in. When I spent summers at my sisters ranch up north (Holland/Saugatuck) I always knew what to do. My family just thought it meant I was smart, or odd because of my disabilities. Maybe both lol

keyt1969....I have always loved looking at old pictures, items, listening to stories of back then, etc. and I wish at times things were simpler like back then. Don't get me wrong....I know very well from stories that things were harder to accomplish back then, took more time, more effort, more everything but the simplicity was there. No one was trying to keep up with the Jones because everyone was pretty much in the same boat.

My chickens have recently discovered the garden boxes. They especially love the red cabbage. By the way red cabbage = bright blue poo. I have a ton of tomatoes still on the vine that are just starting to turn. Jalapenos, yellow peppers, and green peppers are still going strong. Anyone planting garlic this fall?

I am planting garlic! I've been planting it the last several years and still don't know what I am doing! But I do get a small clove and I do get the top part which I replant in Fall. Maybe I should look up some instructions?

So tonight I go out to the coop to lock the girls down and I find another egg on the floor

. Thank goodness it wasn't broken. How do I figure out which one is dropping them from the roost and is there anyway to correct this? Was thinking about keeping them in for a days but it seems unfair to the others plus it is going to be relatively nice this weekend. I think I have a couple doing this but not exactly sure.
