I got to meet a neighbor I hadn't met today. The couple lives a half mile down a private road, so I assumed they were kinda private people since nobody else saw them often. All I knew is one was a doctor. Well, today when I was in the yard a huge brindled boxer comes gamboling up to me as happy as a clam (and he completely ignored the chickens in the yard, he just wanted petted!)! He looked great, was neutered, had a collar with tags and a collar with an electric fence shock mechanism. Definitely an escapee so I herded him into my garage! Called the number on his collar, and sure enough, he had charged through the electric fence and run off. The gentlemen came over right away, and was definitely super nice. I think we were both happy to get acquainted, even if it was through his dogs accidental running away.

I seriously don't think Brown Dog (the dog's actual name) stopped wiggling with glee the entire time. An absolute sweetheart

though I hope he doesn't take any more adventures, since apparently they'd been trying to catch him for a while!

welcome misslady

MI:welcome.... Nova love Roger,he is sweet. ..Daughter that is a cool spider. don't mind them as long as they stay outside. what was he doing in the water anyway?.....Bad,sad, week here. a couple of nights ago I went out to check on the chickens and my black Maran was dead in his coop. we had him separated from the rest due to a leg injury. I thought a pulled muscle. Could find no wounds. and he looked so healthy. The sweetest rooster we have ever had, came up to me all the time looking for treats, would eat out of my hand. He was only 6 months old, ..then tonight I got home from work and my DH told me a hawk got one of my Sussex hens. she was 3 and also very sweet

DH chased the haw away but it was too late. He thinks it was a cooper but said it was rather thin. Still is, cause it didn't get much of a meal off my hen. So now they will have to stay in the run, fortunately we have it completely covered now. We put up a lean- to of sorts, inside the run to give them a little more snow free area this winter. Threw some extra hey out to give them something to do during their confinement. Hate not letting them free range but that hawk will most likely be back.... on a lighter note ;I saw a dear running threw the area I was working in today in GR, he ran right into a tree and flipped himself over onto his back, got back up and kept on running. Hope he didn't end up on the freeway. He was headed that way.........Opa sorry you didn't catch any fish, but at least you got out and didn't have to sit in the rain. Was cold though! Really think I need to get a dog, never had predator problems when we had dogs.

snowflake, so sorry for your losses. I agree with getting a dog. chickendales had a couple of sheltie puppies here on the MI thread, page 2647

Opa, sorry you didn't have any luck but hopefully you still enjoyed yourself. DH said that there were salmon in the creek that runs thru our property. He hasn't seen them in a long time.

Nova, Roger is sweet!

Stacy, thank goodness that Brown Dog was friendly.

I just got a used still air hova bator incubator. I was thinking I would use it as a hatcher. Has anyone here done that?

Today was not a good day for you but tomorrow is just around the corner and hopefully brighter!

I've got a long day head of me tomorrow...DD is in a fall horseshow and I've been working on the horse's costume. Yes I said horse's costume. After the show they always have a costume parade with the riders & horses. This year my DD is going as a lady vampire and the pony is going to be a bat so I've been sewing bat wings for last several hours. Nothing like waiting til the last minute to get it done.lol Sometimes I perform best when under pressure.
Tomorrow looks promising with warmer temps and sunshine.....about time. That rain & wind was something else.

It amazes me how many pages there are too read just in a days time!

Nova - Roger is a very handsome ground parrot, I was studying his picture because I am really hoping my Silkie doesn't turn out to be a he.

Snowflake - So sorry about your chickens.

Give all the rest an extra hug.

Misslady - Welcome, I'm pretty new here myself but everyone has been great, just lots to catch up on!

We did actually see the sun this afternoon!!! Hopefully a bit more tomorrow. I actually pulled out my S.A.D. light this week after having no motivation or energy for a few days. It has worked wonders and I've gotten tons done the last two days.
