Yuck, Yuck, Yuck.....Another dark morning as I ventured out to the coop with my mag light in hand. I definitely do not like it and don't know the reasoning as to why they pushed day light savings time back. Of course.... to save energy!! I'm an early riser and like it when it's light out early also. Chickens don't mind for they have a light in the coop. It's off to work....hope every one has a great day!!

Rain is here.... glad most our work is done. Did anyone see the Northern lights?? I didn't know about it but heard they were fantastic around here!

1muttsfan....I emailed you. Would love the banties....IF you think they would not get beat up by the giants and Orps I have. I vowed not to ever bring in anothers flock but I do have the spare coop to keep them isolated in as everyone says to.

After thinking about it.....if you can find a home for the banties I will pass. I am worried about the integration process.

I've been sick as a dog for days but I did manage to finish winterizing my coop and run this weekend. I enclosed the run in clear plastic so the girls (and Neil) will have an outdoor place free of wind and snow. And I added a couple perches to add some variety to the run. I also removed the coop divider keeping the big girls from the younger ones and did a full clean out.

The first night Neil and Cadbury tried to roost on the new perch in the run so I had to put them in the coop. But in the morning, no problem. Not even any feathers in the coop. Last night everyone was in the coop on a perch when I went out to close it up.

My late bloomers have still not bloomed. I have two BO pullets who are 30 weeks and not a squat between them. And Neil is 20 weeks and still no crowing, no attempt at mating (my one and only laying hen). He is a really big handsome boy, too. You would think he would be strutting his stuff, but no.

I guess I'm lucky Amy is faithfully laying an egg a day. Her eggs started out about 1.75 oz and are now about 2.0 oz. Such a good girl. She's carrying the load for everyone.

Sue, so sorry you are ill. Please personal message me if there is anything I can do for you. Where did you find the clear plastic? I am glad that things are working out so well with your flock! Sooner or later, they will all be laying!

This weather is not doing great things for my productivity. I wish the sun would come back.

I am probably in the minority when it comes to shooting a loose dog, even if it is in my yard. I might shoot it with a paintball gun or other non-lethal tool, but I don't really blame the dog.

Just this Sunday, my golden caught one of my BSL hens. I heard the comotion and intervened before any harm was done (other than wet feathers). The main problem was in catching that one hen, she scared the others who took off in all directions. Unfortunately, one jumped the fence into the back neighbor's yard. The home of 2 large labs. I didn't know she had gone into the neighbor's yard until last night when he told me that he found a dead bird. I can't blame him or his dogs, as it was my fault that she left my yard in the first place. I can't even blame my dog for scaring them in the first place. I was the one who left a gap in the fencing that allowed the dog to get into the chicken run.

So I'm down to 2 BSL's and 2 Buff Orps. I only have myself to blame.
