"Lake Effect" is a really bad word around these parts and I must mind you to keep your language clean on this forum. tsk tsk

Seriously, I am going to try out some heated dog bowls. All my waterers are plastic so I can't use the heated pans. I found a couple at Family Farm & Home (Wayland) for $14.99ea. A fellow WMich BYCer gave me that advise.

While I do have a heat lamp in the coop (I have a brooder area in there with a momma and babies), I do not plan on trying to heat the whole thing. Olive had some great advise on creating areas in my run to block wind so I am going to creatively use a tarp and some straw bales to accomplish that. This will be my first winter too. It should be interesting.

My rabbit lives in the house in his cage. He is litter trained. He gets let out and runs around and is great buddies with the dog. I will find him sleeping behind the recliner alot next to the cat.

Mine looks similar but I created a shelf that it sits on. Mine is more of a tray and I use a dustpan to scoop out the poo. I just toss it in my garden bed now to compost over the winter.

I'll try to get a picture of mine too but it is super icky right now. I'll clean it out first.

Those are cool. I am lazy, I put cardboard on the floor under the perch and then just toss them into the garden to rot. In the summer, they go into the compost.

Chicken grandma, I use a real simple recycled thing... tote lids. You know those rubbermade totes box you get at just about any store? Well, I use several of those, and just take them out and dump to poo off, and maybe use a cat litter scraper if its real stuck. I had a bunch, and I was going to throw them away, but I got tired of cleaning the poop off the wood in the dog house coop conversion, even thou the floor was removable in several sections... SOOO, I thought, HEY, that might work! And I started using them before I even knew there was such things as poop boards, and before I knew there was such a place as BYC. I had a huge one from when I had to put my pit bull Babi down, and It was march and the ground was to hard to dig him a grave, SO I got a HUGE one, and put him in that in the back shed taped up until the thaw, I buried him with the neighbors chicken. Figured he'd like to have some fun in doggy heaven, no he never attacked any chickens, but he sure liked to chase them and watch them run... well anyway, I use the tote from that to hold feed bags now so mice can't get in, and the lid and a few other large lids like that now sit under the roosts. Makes it so easy, and I don't have to scrape poop of the wood floors. YEAH!

HH, I whistle for my girls like you'd whistle for the dog. LOL, and its a fluffy of feathers! Better than tv!

Had quite a sleet storm last night. Thunder and lightning too! Really sucked for paper delivery!

I am getting EGGCESS eggs piling up. Going to try breaking a dozen and take the beater after them, then put in freezer containers so I can take them to deer camp. Should be able to just scoop out a ladel full and cook them eh? Then I won't need to buy eggs up there. We usually precook our bacon and sausage links and freeze them too, Saves alot of splashing grease in the little camper kitchen and makes for a faster breakfast so we can get out to the woods before sunrise.
Im am terribly sore from swimiing and water aerobics for 2 hours friday morning at the Y. But I bought a month membership in hopes of knocking off a few pounds before deer season. Gotta head back to the gym!! have a great day everyone.

This is great Opa.....Thanks.....I think I can do this. Mine would have to be narrower & longer though which is fine. I have to go to Lowes in a bit so I'll look to see what they have.

I made Pumpkin Spice Mini Donuts this morning and thought other BYCers might enjoy having the recipe. They were very simple to make and while we've only tested one since they're for a party we're attending this afternoon, they're pretty tasty, too. One tweak I will make next time is to increase the spices, I'd probably as much as double them. The "spiced" is very subtle with the way the recipe is written and I like a little more kick. I'll also note that where they say to fill the cups full, but not overflowing you'll probably actually want to go about 3/4 full. Fresh eggs seem to make things fluffier and they come out looking more like donut shaped mini-muffins if you fill the cups up.

Click Here for the Recipe. (And drool-worthy pictures!)

ETA: It also makes more than 24. Like twice that many.
