Honest, Officer. That deer commited suicide on my arrow.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out how it's not even 6pm yet. It's so dark out there. Bring on the solstice so we can get this trend on the right track again. Spent the morning sorting and moving hogs in the drizzle and the afternoon hauling home alpacas for the kids' 2012 4-H projects. Came in for good just before five and made a big pot of goulash for dinner. You can tell we were out working in the wet cold all day because there were barely any leftovers, normally we'd all be eating goulash for another meal or two.

I haven't made a goulash since my dad passed... Not a good one anyway. My mom, she doesn't like goulash. She's from Canada though, and doesn't know whats good for her. HEHEHEHE. Just kidding. Its not cuz she's from Canada that she doesn't know whats good for her. I agree with the hurry up and lighten up already feeling. I can remember just a few months ago, it would be 10 pm before I closed up the coop. Now I go out at six, feed them their dinner and shut the doors.

ETA I had to take the GLW to the coop tonight. They had decided to sleep in the silkie coop. I would have left them, but 2 large birds and 2 small birds in a 10sq space... Along with the little feeder and waterer. AND no real place for them to roost... So, Jace and I took them out to the coop in the dark. They were not happy. The minute I put Vanna in, Oscar jumped her. Well heck, no very wonder they didn't want to go in the big coop.

RaZ, can you come and build me a garage coop like yers? LOL. I can't believe it. Am I gonna have to get rid of Oscar? He isn't hurting them, he just... Well if he were a human perv, we'd say he'd bang anything that moves... Mr Fluffers will step in though and set him strait when he's getting to annoying and chasing the girls all over. And thats kinda funny. I saw him today go and knock Oscar off of Veena.

Just curious, what breed of hogs do you raise?
I like goulash too, some of my siblings, not so much.

We just noticed the other day that most of our signs as you approach our property are missing from the trees. Happened to be the same day we noticed a truck that we've never seen before sitting a bit down the private drive that borders our west side. Thanks for the idea of wrapping the signs with shrink wrap once up.

OK... I need help. I should have just kept my mouth shut....

DUCKS. Typical white farm ducks. I have NO IDEA what they are, other than ducks, and I said I would take them. The coop that I said I would give to Angela if she lived closer was the home to these ducks. My friend, had to give her ducks up because of where she lived... Well anyway, she asked if they could come here too instead of the petting farm so they could come to take care of them here. I said yes.... WHY!!?? LOL.

I don't know anything about ducks. NOTHING. They have been around silkie chickens, so they atleast know chickens... What am I going to need to do to make sure they are secure? I mean, I know what to do for that, but what do I need to do DIFFERENT from what I do with chickens? What am I going to need? I know she says she will come, but what if she doesn't? What should I get prepared for them for the winter?

At least you have their coop Nova!

I think ducks need a predator proof place for night time

Grumbles, water ( they will jump into it if they can) and some shelter in the daytime.

That is my duck knowledge. I just know that racoons will eat them at night so lock em up!

I was just reading up on them... Doesn't look like I need to do much different except maybe use straw or hay... Their coop right now sits flat on the ground, I was thinking maybe bringing it up off the ground... Get about 8 cinder blocks to set it on. Its already in the tree line, so there is enough of a wind break. It does however need a good round of hardware cloth and a solid door where the front is open...

SO much for the awesome feeder station. LOL. Oh well.

Words cannot convey my excitement! This Wednesday I am going to visit a goat breeder to meet a doe I may buy! OMG! OMG! Soooo exciiiiited. I won't be picking her up right away if I do, since she is going to arrange to have her bred (spring babies!) which is even more exciting!
