Good luck! I have had an ad up for my roo for a couple weeks. Nobody wants him.

Been a long time so i don't know who posted about the Jennings Farm new rules. Spoke to my DH about it; turns out that WAS the farm he was at when he got lost for 3 hours last year. So whoever had the lone lost scary looking hunter show up on their doorstep...

Thanks for helping! I am kinda attatched... Just think the sound of the chickens was probably the only thing that saved him when he was wandering out there

Btw, do you have to pay now, or just register?

Thanks all for the well wishes. It is a miracle that we were all totally ok - even the roosters! We were unable to search for the rooster since he was in a cedar swamp. We did go to all the nearby homes and let them know to be on the lookout for a stray rooster. My son was mostly sad that when he crowed there would be no girls there for him.

I left it as "God looks out for roosters too". He's not so teary today.

That said I can't believe some one would throw out a rooster! Here I am agonizing over the loss of a rooster that was going to be butchered! I hope to instill in my kids that animals are not just cute and fun but also a responsibility. It's your job to take care of their needs, if you can't you find some one who can or in the case of obnoxious roosters deal with them in a humane way. RBahmer, it's good to know you found a spot for him.

As for all the SURPRISE roosters. We had a cornish/polish cross that was a runt. We had no idea it was a roo until after it was 6 months old. In a weeks time it went from looking like a hen to unmistakably a roo. It's like those rooster hormones suddenly kicked in and SURPRISE! I would love to learn the gross art of vent sexing chicks so as to avoid unpleasant surprises in the future.

Thank you taprock. I am so glad you guys are ok but am sad like your little boy about the rooster. Hope he finds his way. God has a way of taking care of the animals. Tell your little boy that I said a prayer to St. Francis to look out for him.
My kids are grown now but I did instill in them the value of an animals life. I made them understand that just because they were an animal that their life was no less important than anything else's. We are all God's creation. My husband and I have spent the last 31 years rescueing animals out of horrific conditions so the poor little rooster was just a normal thing. My friend does the same thing. Always rescueing something.

Well, Sachi went out to the coop after I let the chickens out, so I followed him with my camera hoping to get a video or picture of him stealing eggs. He was looking in the nest box, but when he saw me he wouldn't take an egg out.

This picture is staged. I took the egg and sat it beside him. I'll keep watching him and will get a picture one of these days.

This is Worf crowing. Would have been a nice picture if I hadn't set the pooper scooper on the stump!

RBahmer - Please keep us updated on the little trash can roo. I hope he's OK. People throw human babies in the trash, so it's no surprise some sicko would do it to an animal. I'm sure if someone wanted to put the time into it they could probably track back to who did it. They must keep track of sellers at the auction.

We live in E. Lansing (about as far East as you can get) 1/2 block from Haslett. Just started with the girls this spring. Good to know more people in area.

They do keep track of the seller but it wasn't the seller who done it. He must have been in a pen with other chickens, probably hens I'm guessing, and it was the buyer who did it. No way to track whoever it was down because she doesn't know what pen it originally came out of. But he is in good hands now so be was one lucky Roo. If she hadn't have found him he would have been there all next week with no one there and would have starved to death in that trash can. He was just lucky she heard him flopping around in it.
