Chickmate....the pic early was Dusty my bantam Roo. I posted the pic because he didn't want to put his feet down in the snow, he was standing on one leg. Here is a pic of my little hen Sparrow who likes to fly.....it was taken the other day before we got snow.

Hillybilly....I posted early the other day and asked if chickens would molt now. Mine are 8 1/2 months, did the juvenile molt in the summer and the past few days I've been noticing feathers in the coop...a little more than usual.

Farmerboy16.....keep those pics coming. Funny that the older chicks are afraid of the newbies.

Keyt.....your new little pig is cute! My uncle use to raise pigs....the little piglets were always my favorite.

We've only had a few dustings and that was no big deal to any of the girls. I'm waiting for a big snow to see what the hens do. I'm betting that I don't see much change in behaviour.

I've heard and read that chickens are not tolerant of change. I disagree, based on my observations of my little flock and the way they curiously investigate every little thing that happens around them.

Mine are 37 weeks and I see a few feathers here and there, but I don't think it's a moult. I'm getting eggs so I'm pretty sure no one is moulting.

My uncle raised pigs too. He always had a pitcher of milk in the ice box that he said was pig's milk. It was extra thick and creamy and tasted oh, so good! I don't know for sure if you can milk a pig but that farm fresh stuff was wonderful.

I'm still getting eggs but I'm down a bit....only 6 the past couple of days where I usually average 8-10. I did have 5 this morning, we'll see what I get later.

Never heard of milking a pig....lol...I think he was pulling your leg! I suppose it could be done.

Yesterday I had two escapees. Boots the d'Uccle roo and Soren the Ameraucana pullet. I'm not sure how long they were out, the temps were 10 -13 degrees and they were happy to go back in. Today I noticed Boots has frostbitten spots on two points of his comb. I'm guessing it was from his time out, I've never had anyone get frostbitten wattles/comb in the coop and it was down to 20 below last year. Are certain chickens just less tolerant? His comb doesn't look black so maybe there is hope he doesn't lose part. I will go put some antibiotic cream on him. Poor dumb bird - why he couldn't just stay in where it was warm!

AngelaB.....Nice looking chickens you got there.

Does anybody's chickens not like the snow? Mine don't.

I literally had to coax mine out of the pen and they didn't venture far....they don't like the snow! They act like it's got cooties or some thing and hung around close to the pen. My little bantam Sparrow flew from the coop to the wood pile to avoid walking through it. That's approximately 35 ft and then flew back to the coop when she was done picking around. Guess they prefer their snow free pen.
