Just think how Chickmate feels, having me follow her everywhere...

That's because the robe you are wearing is so threadbare...

Mom 2 - doesn't that sound like pneumonia in your hen that died? I mean the wheezing? I would clean all the water dishes with a 1 part bleach to 30 parts water solution and if any other hen wheezes, I would give them a pennicillan/amoxicillan drug for 7 days. I know Fifelaker used Denagard in the water for a respiratory infection in her flock and her flock is well. I know it is just a guess and I hope that is not going to happen but that is what I was thinking. So sorry, I hate to lose a chicken and we all do - it is part of the bargain.
Chicken Grandma-
It really didnt sound like pneumonia. I mean, it may have in my description. But, she really sounded like she had something caught in her trachea. She sounded like a kitten, then she sneezed violently. Nobody else has any symptoms. I sat out there for a long time, just listening to them. And she didnt have any goopiness, no discharge, very dry sneezes. I mean, it could have been pneumonia- never saw it in a chicken before. So I dont know what it sounds like. Thank you for the advice- I may as well take precautions and bleach the feed/waterers.
I should have taken her in to work and we could have looked in her nose and trachea with a laryngoscope . I will sit out there again today and make sure I dont hear anymore wheezes, or sneezes.
eta: I just went out and sat with the girls to listen to them and observe. Now I have myself paranoid and dont know if I am imagining problems, so I came back in. My sizzle is fluffed up. Is she just keeping herself warm? The black fruitloop sneezed a couple times- but she had just drank out of the waterer. SOOOO, after freaking myself out and my imagination trying to create the chicken plague, I decided that I was going to check them later and see if there are any of the symptoms presented again by the same birds.

RAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got an egg!!!!!!!!!! One of the fruitloops actually laid one...at least I think it was one of them. Its very small. Andddd its where the steps meet the door of the rabbit hutch. very dumb spot to drop an egg. I havent gone out to retrieve it yet. I can see it when I look out the bathroom window. Little goofy fruitloops have grown up. Polish really have to be for entertainment purposes only.

Okay, gonna go peek in the spy window and see who is awake and here now.

eta: FOUR eggs today! Two in the coop, one in the lean-to, and the little Polish egg on the steps! I guess everyone was just waiting for snow to start laying! Or maybe now they cant run around and are bored so they decided to lay...I dunno but my hubby is happy to have fresh eggs for breakfast.

Wow, no one else is on!

Grandma - Bobbi was beautiful!

Mom - those fruitloops of your sound like mine, I have 10 Polish girls and am getting 2 - 3 eggs right now from them, but their just so cute you have to overlook it.

Morning to all it's only -1 here. I'm off to check on everyone and then off to any early meeting.

I forgot to give everyone an update on my chick in the house. I suppose I should name her/him. We are getting quite attached to one another. My husband says it looks for me all the time when I am not here. It spends most time in my lap while I am on the computer or watching teevee. Last night, it sat in my lap until MIDNIGHT because my evil son and his equally evil girlfriend brought home a scary vampire movie and made me watch it;

It is walking around on the computer desk now- I cant wait until its big enough NOT to be a cat snack. My one cat would really like a chicken nugget. The rest dont seem to even notice.

Im giving it injectable Baytril orally. 0.01 ml SID for a week. She is still breathing hard, but no other problems noted. Got feathers!

:)

Grandma- what a beautiful bird Bobbi is. My Bonnie Blue looks just like her only she is porcelain. Bonnie loves it when I go out there and hold her. She lays me a little egg everyday too. One of my quail d'Anvers started laying a couple of weeks ago. Now you talk about a small egg. Like the pigeons eggs when we had them. Lol.

Wooo Hooo. Just got my order in to Sandhill Preservation to get some very hard to find chickens. I am getting some Black Penedesencas , Exchequer Leghorns, Mille Fluer Leghorns, Wheaten Marans, Flame Jaerhon's, and some Cuckoo Layers. Now if I could only find some Crele Penedescencas.

I was thinking of placing and order with them this year and Exchequer Leghorns are on my list too! :)

I placed my Sandhill order last month for Jaerhons and Dorkings. Their birds are not nescessarily SQ, but have always been hardy good growers and breed typical with a few really good individuals in each group.

Cold up here this morning, 4 degrees at the house, when I asked the chickens if they wanted to go out they just gave me that Are You Kidding! look

. The open water on the bay is smoking from the cold air, very pretty.

ordering birds already eh? I need to sit down with the calendar and figure out when I need to have Turkey poulets arrive so they will be ready for the fair auction in August. Always good to order early. We are incubating eggs for school, maybe 4H and would like to have a small batch here at home to hatch over spring break. Maybe if I plan the winter months away quicker. Maybe hatching the turkeys from hatching eggs instead of buying poulets. What to do, what to do.

Egg production is faultering a little this past week which is fine as I have not had any customers in some time. Not sure what that's all about. Everything looks so crisp and clean under the new blanket of snow. I filled the bird feeder earlier but have not had a single visitor yet.

Have a blessed day.

I don't know if counts as "ordering" new birds, but I asked Wynette for 2 Marans and 2 JGs once they are hatched out. I'd love to get them as chicks but if I ended up with a roo my neighbor would have another conniption. I so need to move to the country.

I did send an inquiry to Fish and Game to see if I could get a permit to raise ducks for release. Not sure if I can get it, but that would be pretty cool if I did.

Still waking up. Homework overload yesterday.
