Hillbilly Hen-

Your dog looks like he loves the cold weather!

My two couch-loving sissy dogs had a blast this morning, running about the yard, acting like two fool puppies!

That ended quickly though, and the moment I was done with my chores, they beat me to the back-door. lol.

My DD
meaning dumb dogs

have been romping around all over the place, inside, outside, trying to climb the garage wall, stealing firewood and they just knocked over the food bowl. Kibble all over the wood floor and now the cats are playing soccer with the bits.

At least the chickens are behaving. They are out in the run poking around and completely avoiding the asparagus that I gave them. Can't say that I blame them.

Better get back to homework, I suppose.

Ok, I just looked up chick shoes. LOL, thats just crazy! I can't beleive the stuff we will do for our chickies. LOL. SO, I am going to draw her one foot that is strait, cut it out and tape one to both feet. I understood that it needed to go on both, even though its only the one foot? Well, we'll see what happens... I have medical tape that I can also try and just tape the toes strait on the bottom, then put another tape over the top... will try that first, and if it doesnt' work, the card bord booties.

Has anyone had a chicken with wry neck? I am asking because Aster was looking at thing funny today. With her head parallel to the ground. But she'd also hold it strait up. But then I will catch her doing that again. She's my witch chicken. She's not a very friendly girl, and will attack you if you try and touch her... SO, gonna be a bit hard to catch her if I need to treat her. So, if its the begining, any advice?

I try to space my planning out throughout the winter. A little here, a little there and maybe spring will come. This year it's been so nice that I've been distracted by being outside so much, but winter is here at least for a bit. Ground is still mud beneath all the snow. What a mess it's going to be come Monday and Tuesday when it's 40 degrees out there.

Ok, they are all 15 days old. This little one is thriving even though she is smaller, than the others except for one little blackish one that is a OEGB. So, its tape and cardboard right? She actually walks all over with them like that.
I'm not a vet or even very experienced raising chickens so I could be completely wrong here.
I looked in Diseases of Poultry and found something that looks very similar. They describe Valgus & Vargus Deformation (VVD).
They say chicks are affected before 1 week of age. Mostly affect the right leg. 70% of birds affected are male.
The condition may be predisposed in fast growing birds and/or manganese deficiency.

The book does not list any treatments that I could find. Maybe you can google this and see if it applies to your littel guy. I hope this helps some.

Well, I now have a post floating out in cyber space....wth. Anyway I was gonna say that even though I prefer warmer temps this snow sure does make everything look pretty out here. Love everyone's outdoor pics and the baby chicks. Nova they are so cute. Hope whatever your little one has there it is correctable/treatable.
I went this morning to get some DE and everyone was out or it was packed away in the warehouse til spring.

I was thinking of ordering it online. If anyone knows of a place to order from, fairly priced please let me know.
