That is my brooder shed behind him, and this was taken when BobBry came over with his son to pick out some chicks from me last spring. I did not know that a picture was taken at the time.

Daron, ya stole my thunder. At's what I get for taking so long to respond to posts. I did try to post what u did
but lost the post somehow. Bobbie

I guess it would be hard on the little ones. Do you have someone you trust to take care of them?

Good Morning everyone!

I am functioning in Zombie mode. I cannot understand how I can be THIS tired. Gotta work today. I brought news with me this morning. My mom has agreed to start their vacation on June 24th so that I can be free for Chickenstock!

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

It makes for a very busy weekend for me, but it will be worth it :)

Yay Mom2, I am glad that you will get to be there.

I think aliens have abducted one of my marans!

Well, one of my marans has vanished and that's as much info as I have. I figure something got her, but I dunno what. She's too big for a hawk to carry off, but there's no body anywhere in the yard and any feathers that may have been taken out on a struggle are likely buried in the snow.
She's the one that's been oddly lethargic lately and she usually sits somewhere in the run or up against the house so I don't know what would have gotten her. My only other thought is that maybe something scared her over the fence and there's a rogue chicken wandering the neighborhood. I doubt that's the case though.

Ferret, so sorry about your hen.

Hello. I have been on BYC for about a year now and just found out that this thread existed.

I am from South West Michigan near Kalamazoo. I just wanted to say hi and get to know some fellow Michigan people on this site.

I also heard something about a Chickenstock. What is it? And Where? I am kinda interested...

Thanks
Shaun

Shaun & welcome! Chickenstock is going to be held in Lansing, June 23rd. You can find all the details in Opa's siggy line, or RaZ's or mine.

Hello, K-zoo.
See the links below for details on Chickenstock. It's a great opportunity to meet the nice folks who are ever so chatty here.

John, so sorry about your hen. How old is she? Is it possible that she got into some moldy feed?

No, I keep my feeds in a dry storage and they usually burn thru a bag fairly quickly, and my coops are super clean. I think she was just a sick girl whom finally showed symptoms. From what I've read if you keep birds you should assume they all have Mareks and not mix in new birds until 4 months of age. Carriers usually are immune after that time. I agree about vaccinated chicks. That's what I'll try and get in the spring. The girl I've purchased from does not vaccinate, and I'm not sure about TSP.

Hey thanks for all the replies BTW. I'm going to give Dr. Fulton a call - Thanks Linda! I'm one of those that try and keep everything so-so, and clean my chcikens and rabbits weekly no matter what. I've done some reading on Mareks and have decided chicks that are vaccinated probably have a better chance down the road. My other birds are robust and looking good so I feel pretty good about them. Again, thank you for all the replies. Peace, John
