snow blower for two inches? 'k.
Dont you think that is more trouble than a shovel?
The seat next to me on the bus is vacant...in case you need to rest.

Aisle or window?

As a guy and engineer, any chance I get to use power tools is alright with me.

Hi Grandma, Im here.
My first incubation was a total FLOP, lost every single chick and I even sent some down to Keyt, cause she knows alot more about it than me, she managed to get ONE out of twelve to hatch, but it wasn't well and was put down. Very depressing, that whole situation. I paid abt $40 for those eggs (+shipping), they were Lemon Cockoo Orps and I have absolutly NO Orps and wanted some so bad.
Then I had a neighbor find me and came over and got some fertile eggs, he's having a hatch right now so......

I got notice my Brinsea (ordered Dec 31) will or should be here the 24th...guess I'm waiting on the chinese to make them. But it's SOOOO cold out I don't think I want to start a batch at this time, however I have set aside a couple of my Buff Chante eggs, only one hen and one roo but they will be purebred, everything else laid will be a cross.
Im very sad about my JG Roo, Sir Richard. He's so lonely. The bossy hens push him away from all the treats and tho he attempts to breed they put up such a fuss ol Opa comes a running over and breaks it up, I fear he hasn't learnt to be quick enuf about it and finish the job.
Im considering selling him, he's beautiful and sweet and deserves a fun exciting life. Can't get rid of the hens who aren't yet a year old, they are all laying nicely finally and my customers are getting steady, tho I charge $2.50/doz. Perhaps I will get some JG eggs and incubate them for him. When they come of age of course.
But I'm still around, have been working on genealogy seeing it's way too cold to be outside. Im even leaving coop cleaning till it warms up some. I usually just take the shovel to the deepsh!t and add some more straw, but it needs a good and thorough cleaning, SPRING is coming of course.
stay warm ya'll.

Speaking of ChicwannaB. I am getting worried about her. Why is she not chiming in once in a while?

Nice shot

did you look at the bus windows?

yep...

It's not the ladies on the Mi thread I'm concerned about. The real people who ride the "special bus" have friends and family who might not like the cut of that jib. Make sense ??

sorry..

definitely aisle.

MY EGGS ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND none are broken.
They traveled from Kenton Ohio to here. Each egg wrapped in bubble wrap, ina styrofoam egg carton, in a carboard box stuffed with crumpled newspaper.

So, what do you think? Does that mean they weren't frozen? At least not frozen enough to burst..soo, lets see what we get out of it.
I will let them come to room temperature until tomorrow and then put them in the incubator. Let the process begin. We must now have Spring in three weeks. Wait..what day is three weeks? Maybe I will have birthday chicks.

Nope. 3 weeks is Feb. 12th. My birthday is six weeks away.

I ordered one on the same day. I have the one that holds 20 eggs coming. Due here on the 24th, as well. I just received 24 eggs ..the auction was for 18. Yay for extras...but will I be able to squish the extra four eggs in to the new incubator?

I am going to start them in this styrofoam one, but definitely am switching them to the new one when it gets here.

Hello All,

I would just like to go ahead and reserve a seat on the bus before I ask this next question. As I have said before, I am a geek, just not a computer one. I hope this makes sense, and I really hope someone has a solution. In the old format when I went to the coop section (even though I have a coop, I'm always looking to borrow some ideas from you brilliant folks) six boxes popped up with small, medium, large, brooders, and tractors (ok so that's only five, apparently not good with numbers either). I would click on one and be able to see all the thumbnails of the coops. Now when I go to the coop section, I can't even see all the categories due to the ads on the right hand side. I have tried to use the settings to go full wide screen as some of you mentioned and can't seem to figure out how to get rid of the ads. May not even be possible due to my "Out of the brooder" status. I thank you in advance for any help, however even if you give me the perfect solution I'm not sure if I will be able to accomplish it with my limited skills.

This is what I see when I go to the coop section. Does it look like this for you?

HMMM. After I posted it, it went to the far right. It does not look like that for me at the actual coop page.

good luck with yours Mom2.
Yeah I ended up calling Brinsea looking for my order and they said they wouldn't be getting any in till the end of the month. I thot that was wierd, the company didn't have any of their own product. Perhaps it was just a shipping warehouse, it was in Fla.
I have since seen the same model I ordered at a poultry company for $50 less, but I will have a 2 yr warrantee

An egg can be checked to see if it is frozen the same way you can compare a hard boiled egg to a raw one. Spin it, stop it, if it starts to spin on it own it is uncooked or unfrozen.

Hope they all hatch for you.

Mom - yea on the eggs arriving!

Warning to those of you who use the heated dog dishes in this very cold weather. I found blood this morning frozen to the metal feed container. I couldn't find anyone bloody, however a bit later I discovered Ms. Lorp with a dripping comb. I believe she dipped her comb in the water while dripping and then stuck herself to the metal while eating. I brought her in and put styptic powder on her comb. She was just so sweet standing still while I took care of it. Then she wanted to check out the bathroom, silly bird. I know I didn't want to use the dog dish again next winter because my Polish all end up with frozen crest feathers and now with the combed ones for the same reason.

wouldn't doing this break that fragile little Chalaza thing, or whatever it's called?? just asking. I really don't know. I handle mine so very carefully.
