Chicken Grandma - Congrats! I finished my MBA a year ago and it wasn't easy. Some professors you just learn to keep your comments to yourself and get the grade. They don't appreciate your opinions or your experience. It sucks but that is the way it is sometimes.

Not working here, as you can see. Just can't find a pt job near me that will at least pay for the gas to get there... Buuut my girl got a nice coat from me. Took the last 3 days, but she's my favorite and so i spoil...

It is wine colored pleather with stormy blue stitching, and peach lace with peach ribbon snap-on straps. And you can't see it but there is brown "fur" lining it! Sounds like a bit much but all scrap material and it looked super sharp when it was done. I even formed it to curve instead of lying flat so it would not be too stiff for her.

Grandma Chicken - good for you! Part of the reason I am homeschooling my son is so that he will learn "how to learn" and to always ask questions. I guess that is more important to me than any rote answers. I just read a quote the other day that said a man who doesn't learn is better off dead. Harsh but does have some truth.

I also had a talk with the MSU poultry vet. I wanted to know for my size "farm" (have chickens for eggs, am not breeding but do sell or rehome some) what vaccines should I be giving to those that I hatch. I was told Merecks and Fowl Pox - only if there is a lot in my area - which there isn't. I asked about other vaccines for those diseases where a chick or chicken can be a carrier and not have symptoms. I was told that while there are vaccines, they only keep your chickens from getting symptoms not the disease and they could still be carriers.

Opa, the most frustrating thing about disappearing posts in my opinion is that you can never remember just what it was you said and be able to repeat it (of course it was always something brilliant and profound).

Taprock I want that pile of rocks BAD.

Returned to college for my masters degree today after MANY years - 28 to be exact.

Half way through the first class...... my big fear comes true. The professor trashes a treatment that I know works. The class laughs with him - young folks, no hands on experience at all.
I am steamed. I raise my hand and point out that in practical experience, this treatment often works for people. I know the research on it is inconclusive but it WORKS.

Not a good start. The professor is good at theories but maybe has been in the classroom too long. The students will follow him whereever he leads them.
And me - I have hands on experience and if it doesn't match the info in the class? I am going to trust my experience.

This is going to test my patience.........

You go girl !!!!! I have found that EXPERIENCE is always a better teacher. That's like these kids that come out of college for agriculture. Never been in a field before, or on a tractor or anything and then they want to tell a person how to farm. Good luck Grandma..

Growing up, whenever I did a stupid thing, my mother would look at me and say " Did you learn anything ? As long as you learn from it then you are good. If you didn't learn then there is a problem. " Mother always told that to me and my brother and sister.

I am considering GOING to college. I am losing over half my pay starting feb 2. BIG BIG loss. And I either find another job or go to school. What does someone like me, who has done nothing for the past 15 yrs but route driving do? I am looking for work though. I have a week yet to go. So far, it looks like Subway is the only place thats willing to hire me with my current availability... Sucks... I would prefer 3rd shift... Anyway, my enter button is not working, so, run on paragraphs here that change subject. Mr Fluffers set off the alram this morning, and I paid attention to it. Sure enough, that evil little hawk that took out my pretty Buffy was back, and perched in a tree. All the girls are ok. 3 were hinding being a trash can and propane bottle. One was in the hedge, one in a nest box and 2 were in the garage with mr fluffers. Roger was even in the garage setting off the alarm too, only Mr Fluffers was much louder. LOL. I guess he isn't so worthless today. LOL

Mom2, do you find that you hurt more when the weather has been nasty? Have you tried taking magnesium malate? I hope you find relief for your pain.

I just spent several fun hours in the coops section... I so wish I had seen this site was here before I built my coop. Well, the coop section and the step by step directions some people gave. I was here when I built my coop... Just was new to but and didn't check out the coops... Well any ways... I was checking out the section, and I think I have come away with some better ideas for building. Now I just need a fancy saw...
