Like the sprouts, what kind of grains do you use? Really need to start doing some of this stuff saves a lot on feed if done right. Or so I have read....

RBahmer, sorry about your lambs. hope momma is doing OK. That would be so sad. good thing you know what to do or all would have been lost

Thank you snowflake. It does come in handy to know what to do. You learn this from years of farming LOL. Mom is doing better than this morning. She has been up and drank some water but not eating yet. I am going out in a little bit and give her some aspirin.

I think that the amount it did hatch in my bra was just enough. LOL. I had to pick little egg shell chips out of there, and they were just as picky as when I get straw down my shirt. LOL. I learned the hard way, but real quick not to put the straw on my shoulder and carry to the back. LOL.

Okey dokey... Picture time! OH, and the little chick that I bra-ed is a silkie faverolle... I think I said that..

The fuzzy black one on the bottom there, thats the silkie faverolle... ITS TINY!

Sorry Leila's head is a blur, she's shoving silkie butt back under her, they are all waiting in line for their turn to get under her.
The black one in back is the Skatter/Fluffers baby, the next one is the full faverolle, the yellow one up close is the Skeeter/Fluffers baby, and the little silkie is the Roger/Buffy baby.

I am thinking I should enter this one in the Pic Of the Week. This is the faverolle baby.

And I tried to get pics of the 4 week olds, but they would NOT stay till. BUT these two were curious enough to let me snap a quick pic.

Isn't that just the pits ? Just the chances we take in farming I guess. I shouldn't complain. Out of all my sheep that lamb my odds have been pretty good.

Yep. Comes with the territory, unfortunately. Where you have livestock, you have dead stock. Here's to better lambing as the season wears on. How's the ewe looking?

Aw, RBahmer, sorry about your losses. Hope Momma Ewe makes a full recovery. Can you give a sheep a hystorectomy? Just curious...

AND, baby number 5 made it out and was nearly dried and fluffed by the time I got home. Had a bit of something hanging from the belly area, so I am guessing it will fall off. Believe it or not, this one is the silkie/fav baby, so I am very surprised at that cuz it incubated the longest, longer than the full fav baby who was put in 2 days after... I was kinda hoping they'd both be pure favs, but I am not complaining. I know Roger can do the job too now. LOL. It is so tiny! Black skin, black chickmunky look and funky fuzz on his little head!

AND sad news too... Baby number 4 did not survive. It looks like it got messed up in the wood shavings in the nest, or Leila buried it in the shavings. It does not look like it ever finished drying and fluffing out. That one was Asters baby... BUT, Skeeter has 2 of Aster's eggs under her that are due to hatch this weekend... SO, a successful hatch, if not a successful survival. Jace helped me bury the little thing. SO, I have 2 black chickys and 2 yellow chickys. They are already running around their little coop, and YES, it is funny to hear Leila talk at them and all. So, cute. They run out, run around, then run back under her.

I brought corn tortillas out to the coop tonight. My broody Skeeter decided to come off the nest and get some. Veena went after her, pecking the crap out of her till she got back on the eggs. Poor Mama... SO, I put some corn tortilla in with her, and then when I came back out with peas for the ducks, I gave her some of them too. Figure she needs a spoiling. She's been in the box for 2.5 weeks. LOL. I got some chick wire and screen to tack up this weekend. Well Friday when I do not work.
Thanks Nova. That is awesome about your baby chick hatching. So glad it did and that the others are ok except for #4. That is sad. But you got 4 out of 5 and 5 that hatched. Good for you.

Oh and no you can't give a sheep a hysterectomy LOL

I with you on that one, snowflake.

RBahmer- what an awful thing to have happen. Hope the poor mama recovers and the rest of your lambs are born without any glitches.

Nova- congrats on #5. Can't wait to see some pics. Sorry to hear #4 didn't make it, though.

eta- wow. Go to do a response and miss so much. See the pics now, Nova. Cute!

Yep, I learned that a long time ago. Can't save them all. The ewe looks a little ragged for wear but she has been up a couple of times and she drank water. I need to stay on top of the penn. shots for infection though. I usually give 3-4 cc to a sheep but she is getting 10cc twice a day. Plus we put a bunch of it on her uterus when we put it back in. So hopefully she will pull out of it.
Thanks Olive. I have one out there now that looks like maybe she might do it tonight. Another night no sleep LOL.

Congrats Nova on saving that last egg. :)

I got 5 eggs today!! That is 5 out of 6 hens laying!! :woot

My trio of Tomaru Longcrowers were free ranging today.

The Tomaru's sanded pen- and you bet that I will be cleaning it out every day! :D

I with you on that one, snowflake.
