My youngest son is bi-polar and wasn't diagnosed until he was in his late twentys. He had graduated from Tulane worked for a couple of years and then decided he wanted to go to law school. He was in San Diego and in his 2nd year when he had a severe manic episode that lasted about two weeks. I never felt so powerless in my entire life. He seems to be doing fine now and has a great job as a managing editor of a newspaper in Missouri but I live in constant fear that his troubles aren't over.

I miss the days when I thought when people were talking about someone being bi-polar they were taking about an arctic explorer.

My dad was bi-polar. He was both homicidal and suicidal. He was on 2 different meds. Once the ability was added he was so much better. But he'd quit taking his on occasion also. He was also beginning to have schizophrenia near the end of his life. As much as I miss him, I am so glad that a heart attack took him and not himself. It sucks that he died in my car, but that was better than finding him in a worse condition by his own hands. It just took so long for the Dr. To find the right cocktail that made him stable. And that was only after a voluntary admittance to the psych ward. I will never forget that day... I came home from the store and he was gone. My mom said he went for a walk cuz he was gonna kill himself. He was going to the lake. I caught up with him a half a mile from lake macatawa. Convinced him to in the car and brought him home. He did his first stay shortly after that... I hope you are able to convince him to start his meds back up... Also, sometimes avoiding processed foods, msgs, splenda sweetened foods... Can help with the chemical imbalances... Along with an hour of vigorous daily exercise. Creates happy brain endorphins...
A classmate of mine had a brother who was bipolar. She was on the phone with her sister-in-law when her brother walked through, said he was going to kill himself, and walked out to the garage. Killed himself by the time his wife went out there. So sad.

My childrens' dad once told me he was going to kill himself- had a gun in the passenger seat. Surprisingly, I told him to get into my car (minus his gun) and he did- I drove him directly to the hospital.
It s absolutely heartbreaking when someone needs help and refuses to get it/or allow others to get it for them.

Nova. My stepfather is schizophrenic- on meds. Worries me for my mother's sake. all the time.

Well, do you have any new chicks hatched out? I already know you have been out there looking! Do share...:)

I can completely relate.

I hope your son continues to do well. My eighteen year old does well as long as his relationship with his girlfriend is going well. They get into a teeny little argument, and all hell breaks loose at home.

OMG! I am dizzy from looking at Zeke! Lol. He is stunning though.

No, I have not been out to the coop since I saw the first pip. Why? Cuz 1) its cold, 2) its dark, 3) I already ticked skeeter off today. Lol. BUT SUNRISE IS IN 11 HOURS!

so many sad stories....

to all

Hillbilly Hen- Zeke is so gorgeous. I showed DH and gave a hint, hint...you have such nice looking chickens!

I was surfing thru craigslist and so many people want already started/laying pullets. They don't want to pay for them though... Or, they don't want to go through the trouble of chicks. Sheesh... Leave the hard work part out? They are the best when they are chicks though! Best entertainment. That's why I call them my chuckles.

Please, watch him very carefully. My daughter was bipolar too. The meds made her feel better, so she stopped taking them. She killed herself on Dec 17th, a few years ago. It was her third attempt. Christmas still sucks.

We are so helpless as parents - the kids think they know the answers, but death is so final.

Watch him!
So sorry to hear this Totalcolour . i just couldn't imagine what you have been through.
