I appreciate the comments. It should work out guite well for the "girls". I built a tractor that I've placed all of my cockerels in: they were running the ameracunas ragged. I've started another partitioned pen that I intend to use a isolation house and possibly as a brooder in the spring. Yep, I've contracted chicken fever. Do anyone within 50 miles of Howell have any ameracunas that they want to sell or trade?

Okay, Opa, this isn't a schmancy as yer digs, but it's decent...here's The Blessed Nest...

my husband converted an old ugly shed and made two separate runs. one is 8x20 and the other is 36x20. we are framing a new window this week to complete, and capping all the posts with insulators.

here's the nesting area...now if only someone would like to put something in it!
(the funny looking chicken underneath the nest boxes is our son's rabbit, Harley...he thinks this is all for him!

there are roosts built from a sapling etc. i love that he did this because i have wanted chickens forever. i do have a Blessed Nest!

Looks great to me. They certainly have enough room. How long have your chickens had access to the runs? Mine ate all of the grass in about 2 weeks so now I giving them the weeds I pull from the garden and the yard. An old time poultryman I know suggested that I suppliment their food with alphalfa pellets so I going to start doing that. These chickens are starting to seem like I'm raising kids all over again. It beats sitting and watching the boob tube.

thanks, Opa...coming from someone with a coop like yours, that's a super compliment...will pass along to DH...he did all the work. thanks Catray!

per the time in the run...they were in for 2 weeks straight and added the big run this last w'end. i will keep you posted. they haven't decimated anything YET.

i also have a tractor that we are going to use for 12 meat birds at a time...

Hi, calling out from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Freezing cold winters, warm summers. Hubby just built a sauna, so I have something to look forward to this winter. NO floods, NO tornadoes, NO hurricanes, NO earthquakes, No real threats, gods country thru and thru. Occasionally forest firres. Hunting, Fishing, Watersports, Kayaking, Canoing, Scuba Diving, Bird Watching, Hiking, Camping, Snowmobiling, Ice skating, Hockey, Swimming. Can decorate for christmas with actual snow, Can decorate for halloween with dead looking trees and stuff.............perfect. Than why do I want to go somewhere a little warmer?

Hi Mary-Kay I spent 22 years in the Upper Peninsula, (Delta County, Garden Peninsula) I have scuba dived a a lot up there including diving in the "Big Spring Kitcheetikippee) (sp?) near Cooks. We still go up there to visit friends and I have family in Escanaba, Cornell, and Rapid River. We'll be going up to Esky in August for the UP State Fair....I used to show cattle there when I was in 4H.

My coop is done! (well, it needs a 2nd coat of paint and some nest boxes) I'll have to post some pix later.

But who is watching fireworks tomorrow and where?

I'll be watching the ones in Barton City, that's south of Alpena and west of Harrisville.

Have been on for a whileso here's the update-

Out of 90 (82 meat and 8 layers) this year our losses-

1 Araucana got her head stuck and strangled
1 WMx died (not sure why, heart attack or something)
1 WMx smothered

16WMX in the freezer;)

Next batch of will be ready in about 3 weeks, last batch just after Labor day.

Haven't lost one to a coon this year (knock on wood), but we've trapped 14 of the buggers this year (they LOVE marshmellows)

Steve, if your nephew is between Warner and Lumberjack on Lincoln, he's within a mile of me:p

Missed the swap at Redbird last w/e, didn't matter, had to put $$ on the LP account and a new (used) tire on the Ranger, so no dineros:(

I'll have to get to the next one:cool:
