Hi Painter Chick! I owned Standardbreds too! Raced at Northville, Jackson, DRC, Hazelpark...Folwerville was really changing when we moved up here 20 years ago.
We lived in the "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" house on Grand River.
Yes, I agree REALLY lucky to live in the UP. We are on the western side of the UP - the highest elevation in Michigan...

Can anyone tell me how to add pictures to your posts?

UP_Chicken_Lover, thats so cool you owned standardbreds, I PMed (?) you and I'm not sure how that works but I thought I'd tell you here ( I used to love the backstreach at DRC, foxes and pheasents in Detroit how cool is that).

My (step)son and daughter in law just ordered eggs to put under one of there hens who had gone broody, even my sister in law whos afraid of birds checked out this site, we were thinking if she got some chicks, she at least wouldn't be afraid of chickens if she raised them herself.

Gorgeous day here, I finally got a bit of my real work going again and now the cat is demanding some attention.

Did anyone go to the Belleville 4h swap meet this weekend? Just wondering how it was. Thanks

I went and it was very disappointing. It started at 7, I got there at 7:30 and there were only 3 vendors (someone with rabbits, someone with pheasant chicks and someone selling a tractor) there. I was told that more would likely come later, so I waited until almost 10 and only 1 other vendor showed up. It was the biggest waste of $2 ever.

Isn't that the same one where the girl was stopping a byc member from posting a similar event, in a totally different area of the state, on Craigslist? Wow, bummer, were there many other patrons looking for vendors?

We drove down from Shiawassee County looking for chicken nests and got a pretty good 10 holer for $60. So it wasn't a complete waste of time (and GAS!!), but certainly was not impressed. Some pitbull club was having a match of sorts, so lots of barking dogs. A lady from Byron had some goat stalls and feeders (nice!) but we are goatless, so no interest there.
