Been off BYC for a while, partly due to a stupid virus in the belly and partly to be very busy so I just wanted to wish everybody a good day from the frosty lakeshore area.
Looks like you are all busy with your chickens/ducks/cows and keeping up with the weather! I am comfy at my 72 degree office while hubby is dutifully working on the chicken house and horse paddocks. He doesn’t know yet that I may have found me another horsey. I will tell him after a few drinks tonight. The sun has motivated me to start incubating again next weekend. With my new and improved egg turner this should be simple. If only I could figure out how it will turn my eggs. Me bounce off to do actual work at work.

See y’alls later.

PS. Opa, hope you had a good trip to KY.

Nova, Don't feel bad. "the voices" compelled me to start pestering the kind folks at the Home Depot about when they were getting in their flowers and whatnot..... They kindly reminded me that it's not spring yet.... stomp foot..... but it looooooks like it! I waaaaaant my flowers! He he he. I planted some of my experimental green bean crosses the beginning of winter in pots, (patio window) and thanks to the longer sunlight i have a 7 foot greenbean plant that is finally putting out beans, one at a time.Teasing me, really. TSC was next, so you saved me that one! Congrats on geting Veena well.
Nothing wrong with asking them about spring plants and whatnot. The only trouble is that HD and Lowes usually don't have any knowledgeable personnel. Now is the time for people to start planning what they want in the garden. Now is the time to book your landscaper or gardening professional if you need their services.

Every year, I'll get calls that ask if I can come out right away and do the Spring Chores. People get really mad when you tell them that you are already booked and there is a waiting list. Heck, they even get mad about the weather delays.

And this goes beyond just plain not having helpful staff when you're shopping. If anyone remembers the late blight epidemic of a couple summers ago? All but wiped out the tomato crop in the north east and into the eastern part of the midwest? It was traced to big box stores. Because the staff doesn't even know how to identify disease.

Definitely worth it to go to a reputable nursery/greenhouse. Better service, healthier plants, less risk. For anyone within a couple hours of the Lansing area, VanAtta's just off I-69 is well worth the drive. Nice facilities, well-staffed with helpful and knowledgeable people and a nice selection of most plants.

Hi Avalon, how it's your new Clyde baby doing? Such a cutie.

Another thumbs up for Van Attas. I also like the greenhouse in Eaton Rapids, can't remember the name. And Horrocks west side of Lansing has many perennials. And if you are in the north, Beneath the Willows in Oden (near Petoskey) is worth a trip.
