M.Sue, Meijer has a lovely display of duct tape... Colors nd patterns. And I do believe I saw girly-ish duct tape there.
. Skeeter has been a total psycho all day over this.

Hi -ho, Hi - ho it's off to Meijer's tomorrow I go!!

It's understandable why she's upset....she no doubt is on high guard with the others. Hopefully she will relax a bit in a day or two for you.

Nobody on the egg question??? I showed them to my DH's uncle, and he was amazed. He had chickens most his life and had never heard of eggs being so hard. He wasn't sure how the chick would get out, so now i'm a little nervous. I don't want any getting killed by not being able to get out at the last second....
I'm not saying this is your answer, but are they getting any granite in their diet? DH knows a guy who gives his chickens crushed granite and their eggs are super hard.

I keep trying to get hubby to tend bees. I want the hives. I do not want to have to do the tending. So far he's still resisting. *hmphf*

LOL. DH has the same plan as you! He's been bringing it up for 2 years now.

I've seen a display, too. I can't tell you all the colors and patterns, but I know they have a tie-died one and a camouflage one.

Nova- sorry about your lost chickie
Taprock- that pic is really cute!
And hello to Jennifer

well after talking to ya'll, tomorrow I am going to take some hardware cloth and put it over the floor vents just to be sure. I was talking to a friend about it also and she told me I aught to do a thorough floor check in case I have missed something. I figure the hardware cloth will help make sure I missed nothing...

I have to take pics tomorrow too. I have to show off my beautiful attack roo. He is so dang cute. He is already trying to protect the pullets from me. Lol. But the minute I pick him up he turns into a wuss.

I think I have 2 boys and 2 girls with Leila. Ok... I am hoping. Here's why.... The Aster/Fluff chick has a bigger comb. So, boy. The full fav has NO comb yet. The black Skatter/Fluff has comb. Ruffy (Roger/Buffy) is a girl cuz I said so! Lol I know, they're only 10 and 11 days old... But, I can dream.

Veena is doing wonderfully today.

I have a chick from the Valentine's Day Hatch! :celebrate I had gotten my hova bator back from the family that was using it to hatch eggs from me for a homeschool project. I was going to plug it in, so it can heat up, and add water, when my mom said that she hears something peeping. I quickly looked in the LG, and saw that the mutt egg had zipped part way, but it had the worst case of shrink wrap and stickiness I have ever seen. The humidity was about 20 percent. I had to help the chick out, and got the hova fired up, and water added. It was at 97 degrees with 87 percent humidity within minutes! :woot Then moved the chick and 3 Tomaru eggs in the hova. As I was moving the Tomaru eggs, I felt one tapping the shell! :ya Lockdown was yesterday, so the chick hatched 2 days early.

Ok, so I was recently a bit nervous about giving my broody hen the pair of chicks and a duckling for her to raise. Why? It is so freaking cold right now! But since she'd been setting with ultimate determination on wooden eggs for over a month, I went for it. I slipped them under her during the middle of the night after they hatched. She barely even peeped as I took the wooden eggs from under her and replaced them with peeps. She just muttered a bit and resettled herself. And she has taken to motherhood like a champ! I have her in a dog kennel in the coop for now. She is keeping them well guarded and warmed, making very happy noises, and already is teaching them the ways of chickenhood! When I set out a feeder with chick food for her and the peeps, she instantly made the "tk tk tk tk tk" tidbitting/food call noise to her babies before she sampled any. She walks low and slow, so her babies can move around yet still snuggle close to her. I don't see much of them, other than a fleeting glimpse of chick fluff under her wings and body!

A devoted broody momma is totally an awesome sight. I'd rather her raise a few babes then go through the process of trying to 'break' her through other means. I'm just shocked a broody can do so well when the old man winter decides to show himself (finally)!

I just checked out greenfield farms website for the jubilee orps.... ( which my TP auto corrected to say junkies roos)... And a day old chick is... Sit down.... $199! Yeah. Available in march... Can someone please tell me they have a junkies top....(jubilee orp...)

Isn't it though! Skeeter dug a deep nest in the straw. I was amazed at how warm it is. She's got that nest nice and tight.

Above is a link to a good and brief article about mealworm culture.

Nova,
I got 1000 worms. About 20 $ no postage fee. 4 stage life cycle. Adult> egg>larva>pupae>>>>>>Adult

MSue,

These guys pose no problem to people that I know of. Hey, I knew a fellow once who was fearful of alligators. Different strokes......

They are easy to raise !

Fun ? I can't see/say that.
