Daran, soo very sorry, hope there is a way to save them. .. Maybe if you go to the seminar in MSU they will have some advise, it is horrible that you have had to go through this twice. and you worked so hard to make your area safe.

Mom2, what a horrible thing to happen. if you need the police again you need to call in a house fire. might get faster response

Progress on the run at the end of day one.
love your coop,, you may try putting that weed barier fabric over the net covered run, it provides good shade, also make sure you put extra support in your run so when it snows the weight doesn't take the net down. like your set up, you might want to have a covered area out in the run for food also, keeps it dryer and cleaner inside.

I won another egg auction.

I'm so amazed. I have never tried to coordinate eggs before. So tomorrow I have three shipments of eggs being sent out with four different breeds. I think I'm done looking at eggs for a while! Hopefully the weather won't interfere with shipping from 3 different locations.

M2M - could your broody have knocked the egg out of the nest and then someone played with it? I ended up penning my broody because she kept getting in fights with everyone who was trying to get in her box. Right now it there seems to be lots of fighting for the "Prime" nest boxes.

Mom2 and Raz hope things turn out well for both, friend and neighbor. Mom I think if that was going on next door to me I would have surly had a heart attack, My DH would have been out there with a rifle,& he would have ended up in jail.
Raz so glad you cought on to your friends situation. We have friends and family that have lost some one to suicide. It is so hard on those left behind

Well..
I took your advice and I put my sizzle inside a dog crate in the coop...holy moly did she throw a fit! You would have thought that there was a coon INSIDE the coop...she must have hit her head a hundred times on the top, and threw herself all over the place trying to get out. Finally finally finally she settled down.

gig.gif
I'm just imagining her thinking a coon was in there with her lol

It has been a very strange night. A fellow I know posted on my Facebook a very strange message.
First I answered the post in my usual snarky fashion.

Then he called me, which I found strange. After a few minutes of talking, it dawned on me that he was suicidal. While we were talking on the cell phone, I was able to use my FAX phone to call 911 for them to check up on him. Local 911 was able to link with out of state 911 and check on the situation.

I was still on the phone with him when the police hit his house and neutralized the situation.
My friend is now in protective custody and under observation. His wife and twin daughters who were born last fall are safe.

I'm shaking like a leaf.

Wow, good catch! One year ago yesterday my younger brother tried to commit suicide...thankfully his roommates found him in time. Not even 12hrs later my 2 month old nephew passed away (yes, today is the 1yr anniversary and it hurts so bad)...if my brother had succeeded in his plan we would have had two tragedies in 24 hours. :( It really shook him and he's been better since and I don't think he'll try it again after seeing what pain he could've caused by taking his own life.
Always include people, always make someone smile, always be nice...because you never know if the next negative thing a person hears is the push they've been searching for to end thier life. If you think there's trouble then do something, don't worry about someone being mad at you just do it. I would much rather have someone mad at me for interfering then have them dead because I did nothing.

ok...next subject...this is too much today...

Raz, glad you were there to take his call when he reached out for help!
Mom, how scary! Be careful now. I'd be afraid of the men coming back, too.
Daron, I am so very sorry! You're such an awesome guy. You worked so hard to make a safe place for your chickens. My heart goes out to you. Wish I can do something for you. Know that everyone is here for you and I know you'll get thru this and things will get better. Hang tough, hun.

Good! I wondered about that! Really bad timing on their part, changing accounts right at tax season. I bet they lost customers over this one.

What about people with checks that have the old routing number? Most banks when making a change like this will run dual routing numbers for like a year. I would sure hate for people to be bouncing checks because the bank changed the routing number and they are using existing checks! Sounds like someone at the bank doesn't know what they are doing.

RIRJen. It is rough to lose anyone, especially one so little. Our new sister-in-law lost both her brother and baby nephew in a house fire last April. Every holiday, birthday, etc is rough for her family. They are a strong group, though, and have faced every new day without them head-on. I hope you can find comfort from the love and support of friends and family today.

RaZ- good catch on your friend. You have saved more than one life by taking that action.
Mom2- Wow. I'm not sure where you are exactly, but my DH came from the Flint area and he always has interesting stories to tell. I hope you and your family will remain safe.
Farmerboy- I hope the treatment works for you and your flock.

Hate to hear bad news. Honestly, I can't seem to keep up in here with work, but what were they positive for? If it was Mareks, well, I've been told by a few avian vets, and a prof. at State that if you raise chickens you can be almost certain a large percentage have Mareks. It can be spread thru the air for miles. Most birds develop an immunity and some die around 6 weeks of age. Anyway, that's what I went thru but my BRs that lived are strong producers, and the roos are a general nuisance due to their vigor, lol. The only real change I'm making is keeping any new birds separate for 6-8 weeks. That way my "older" birds, maybe, won't give it to my new birds if my older birds are carriers. That's the way I learned it but I'm sure not done learning. When my dad was a lid he helped a farmer tend hundreds of birds and he recalls a few deathes here and there but never entire flocks being wiped out. Maybe in our good new days things are not as great as some think. I'll go with common sense and mourn my losses but move on and learn. So, good luck and I hope all works out for you! John

See, I would have thought that too, they are pushing thru my recurring direct deposits, BUT NOT NEW. Buncha crap. But... I am not the one who makes up the federal guidelines that need to be followed..

Now, I can not remember who it was that warned me that the ducks would bury their eggs in the yard, and I believe my response was that it would not be a problem, to many critters around here that would dig em out and eat them... HOWEVER, I should have thought about that a little harder, because its not the yard where they are burying them, but in there sleeping crates... I have milk crates, well actually, I think they are bread crates... Well anyway, I went and let them out, and looked in to see if maybe one of them left me another deposit... Oh, yeah! But what? Looks like 4 in there... So I called my son over, told him I needed his help, I was going to hand him the eggs to hold while I was getting them out. I ended up telling him to forget it, grabbed the plastic large note card box I use for bringing their feed out every day, and dug out 14 eggs. So, either they are all laying now... or they are all laying now. And they at least are using the box they don't really sleep in to lay them in. I am guessing they are all going to be good right? Its been like a fridge, and none froze and broke. But yuck, are they filthy. I am clean the coop once a week completely, so I know none are over a week old, but I might have helped bury some when I add fresh straw half way thru the week...
