Well, the dire weather predictions were a fizzle here! Looks wet, but is warm. Looks like a nice day to walk around town a bit.

As far as the other discussion, In 2 years of talking to a whole lotta people about MG, biosecurity, disease in general, you all were the only ones that knew what i was talking about. Which is why i joined. I don't think people are stupid, they just don't know. I have even had people recommend meds that were not even close to relevant. Poor choice of words on my part.

I dislike the "stupid farmer" image. Who do they think is raising the food they eat? And so many seem to think that the veggies just sprout out of the earth with no apparent work, or cost apparently.

Hmmm....i think all paths lead to tractor supply today.....I am itching to see some little peepers....

I'm staying close to home. My ducks were shipped on Monday but my post office says they aren't here. I hope they didn't put them on the truck for delivery.
TSC is a 30 mile drive to the closest one so until I get my ducklings I have to stay close by. Besides, that will keep from doing something stupid.

Well, my youngest daughter and I walked around, but there wasn't any sight of them. The only thing we found were tracks and a few feathers that lead to an old fallen down barn on our property. The tracks disappeared beneath some floorboards. The site is too hazardous to venture further investigation so we stopped there. The feathers belonged to Frenchie so I'm at the belief that he is gone.

eta- there was a fox that inhabited the ruins last year that we know of so that is one possibility. We have also seen a big fat opossum recently.

Back from FL, back to some awful weather here in Lake George. Now in two weeks off to AZ for a few weeks to visit my family then back to MI to get ready for my new chicken friends!! I can hardly wait. The only thing is my local elevator the people there are not very friendly, not to helpful either, hmmmm what to do. I have a TSC in Mt. Pleasant but its a ways away.

Alrighty my chicken friends :) I'm wondering if any of you have any experience with growing Hops? I need something that is fast growing and thick to grow along the east side of my barn to shade it from the sun this summer. That wall gets full sun and the barn heats up quickly...I'm hoping putting up a wall of something will help and a couple people suggested Hops.
Any comments or suggestions? I lost animals last year to the heat because of that wall and I'm not about to let it happen again!
Morn

morning glories ! Plant seeds for a variety of colors about two feet apart and they will shade the wall and provide a beautiful area. This what happens when allowed to mself seed for a couple of years. I like em.

Glad they came back home. Hope you find the other two.

X2!
Farmer-Boy thanks for the link! I will not take the chance with my new babies when I get them. Not sure what to use now but I will research it.

I have been thinking and planning and researching about the birds and the disease that they have. Happy Chooks had asked SpeckleHen about the Denagard and this is what she said- Denagard doesn't fix the carrier status of the birds, only keeps them from having recurring outbreaks. It is not a cure and it's very expensive as it must be given monthly as I understand it. The birds will remain carriers, as far as I know, and can pass it through the eggs, even with Denagard. The only cure is to cull, IMO. I will be experimenting this way- Treat the flock with Denagard, and when the birds get better and the shed level is down, then take the eggs, and dip them in Tylan solution, then send the eggs to the lab for testing for MG. If clean, I can start over with clean offspring from the infected stock. I will wait until all the chicks that have mature and are laying, so I can start saving the eggs to replace the infected stock. I will cull all the birds before dipping the eggs for incubation. I estimate that the youngest chicks that I have will be laying in June or July. I will do all of that IF THE EXPERIMENT WORKS. I will be posting updates on my thread- https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=587948

Well, the storm fizzled up here just south of Alpena. Only got barely 3 inches, and no ice to speak of, looks like the storm warning is cancelled. DH called from Spruce, 17 miles south of Alpena, he says he's got 5 inches at the barn and a little ice so I'm guessing it may have been a little worse the clower you get to Alpena. I'm sure not complaining.
