They are kind of marked like my mallard babies. I picked out the lightest coloured ones though. I'm sure they will change a lot as they grow.

Does anyone know if that makes a difference in what sex they are? I noticed a few at our TSC that were light in color with lighter brown markings while the rest had really dark markings. I asked DH, but he had no idea.

Leading edge of the storm is here. it's waffling between light rain and big snow flakes. Should be an interesting 24 hours coming.

On a good note the little duckling is indistinguishable from his siblings. They all run madly together whenever I set foot inside the coop to add food or water. Momma is confident enough to go outside and look around now and then and leave them under the guineas' watchful eyes.

Don't plan on hitting TSC again till middle of next week or later depending on what they have when I call. It's a 35 mile drive so I don't want to be disappointed. Thinking of getting some BSL, and maybe some Buff Orpingtons or Isa Browns. I want some layers. My hatchery chicks aren't due till first week of June and I don't want to wait till October for fresh eggs. Waiting till July/August is long enough though DH seems to think I may be getting more chickens than I need/want. So, why is 25 plus 6, or 8 too many? He knows I let him cull excess roosters and even excess pullets. There will be fewer than 31 by the time winter rolls around again.

Promise.

Grandma, your daughter is so beautiful. She could easily be a model. You must be very proud of her. By the way, how did you get the name Chicken Grandma? You are obviously not "grandma" age!
Chickmate - My kids told me many years ago, 'these are OUR baby chickens and you are the Grandma'.
So I just got to clean the coop, buy the food and rush to the vet once in a while! What a deal!

I just switched from AT&T DSL to AT&T U-Verse. Unbelievable how much faster it is. I click and a screen comes up instantly instead of waiting and waiting.

Well I amost finished the trees today but the rain started and I knew I would melt if I stayed out in it. It certainly is raining hard and I'm very grateful that it isn't colder. Maybe we are done with snow.

When I was a kid, my cousin and I were out in the pasture when it started to rain. We started back for the house when he stepped in a cow pie and started to cry. I asked him why he was crying and he pointed to his feet and said, "look, I'm melting".

And how is your cousin functioning now RaZ?

edit - He is probably a brain surgeon or something! My daughter saw glitter on her arm when she was very young and said 'Am I a fairy?'
So all this proves that kids are just nutty!

Slipped, slid and sloshed around in 3 inches of mud trying to get chores done, came inside with splatters of it all over me from the pigs being rowdy and dug 8 inch ruts in the yard with the quad trying to move straw.... Spring is here!!!
