Can anyone tell me the best way to transport a 10 month old rooster? I'm meeting with sj tomorrow and picking up her BR roo, Neil, and I would like to know the best way to do it. I have to drive about 25 miles with him.

A cardboard box with air holes works well. Cuts down on what he can see so it's not stressing. Depending on the type of feed you get even a feed bag works. I wouldn't use one of the solid paper purina ones, but the woven ones from mills work well.

I like dog carriers for large fowl and cat carriers for banties. Yard sales are great for deals but you need something quick. I have used a large box with lots of quarter size holes around it.

I thought about using a cardboard box, but just wasn't sure if it was ok. I have cat carriers, no dog carriers, but I knew they would be too small. I think I'll go the cardboard box route. My youngest daughter will be with me so she can sit next to him on the ride home.

Oiy, it was a long day at school.

The new chicks are starting their pecking order games. Eight little fuzz butts jumping and kicking at each other. Two of the SLW's have a noticeable primary wing feather but no tail to speak of yet. I can't quite tell yet on the third, it seems a bit smaller than the other 2. The 2 BSLs aren't showing tails yet so maybe the 1 SLW is just younger. There is no way of telling how many days different the hatch day might have been. The ISAs are visibly bigger than the other chicks but the Wyandottes seem to be the boldest chicks.

Duckies has been calm and sleepy, their little crops are stuffed so I guess they spent all date eating. Tomorrow they get to swim in the sink again.

Do you have a Rubermaid tote that you can use? I did that for ChickenStock last year. I used poultry mesh over the top in lieu of drilling holes in a good tote.

A green rose? I need more info. It's not a hybrid tea is it? I can't grow them up here, too blasted cold.
I also stopped by meijers and found my green rose! No major transplant this time. Gonna put it in the ground as soon as it's safe! This is not the one i had last time but the one i fell in love with off the internet, the one that they "didn't carry".

 I have 2 neighbors that have Saanen goats, and have helped them with the milking and feeding, and loved the milk and caring for them. But cows have my heart first. :D My very first word was Moo, yep its true! My mom says so. :D

I was in TSC to pick up feed today and they now have ISA browns. I may go back tommorrow and pick up a few. I was very surprised by the amount of poultry products they now have. I've never know them to carry so many before. They even have DE.
I had missed having ISA Browns, and the last time I had them was about 4 years ago. My very first laying hen was a ISA Brown hen name Isa Belle, gifted to me for my 14th Birthday by my grandparents. I had promised myself never get those again, for they never live long. I finally broke down and ordered 10 of them through the feedmill. 5 males and 5 pullets. Nova and Chicken Grandma- I do love the sand in my coop, however, how in the world am I suppose to clean 1200sqft coop with the $.98 kitty scooper?!?! :barnie

Changed my avatar to one of my 9 ducklings, but not sure I like it.

They are very cute!

Maple Syrup Candy sounds delicious. It probably was like rock candy I'm assuming.
.
Nothing like rock candy - blows away rock candy! Super sweet, melt in your mouth!

I will wait to move my broody until the chicks hatch and check to make sure the cage is secure. I know she would protect them but in the big coop there are also the guineas and Billy Bob is a bully. I really don't care who hatches, just that she at least gets one and stops the broodiness.

I am moving sand into our coop when I finish giving it the full clean out I started. Dang weather didn't keep cooperating with me, so I still have to finish. It's dirt right now, with some straw mixed in.

My plan is to pick up a metal kitty scooper, like this one, and.. uh.. attractively duct tape it to a stick.
