Lol, I would have to write one of those smutty ones!

About the manure fork, Get some aluminum screen, (the ones not so close knit) and wrap it around the tines... OR, better yet, get hardware cloth, and wire that to the tines! Full size pooper scooper.

OH YEAH, I'M A GENIUS!

Hey, I am in my own mind!
I have thought of that yesterday too! Great minds think alike, huh? :highfive:

I guess I shouldn't have said "yelled at". I was pressed for time and couldn't read back. Sorry!

Incubating is so much fun. My 10 yr old daughter and I are addicted. We have 6 LF Polish & 3 Std Wyandotte that are developing in our bator. These fuzz-butts are due on St. Pattys Day. We plan on incubating our own eggs as soon as these are hatched out.

I hope to be able to incubate our own turkey eggs this year too. Our White Midget just will not set on her eggs for the entire period. She makes it about a week or so and then disappears off the nest :(

I wish you luck if you incubate, you will LOVE it!

LOL! no worries! We will eventually get an incubator... if anything to have a little more control over reproducing the chickens, they like to wait till fall for some reason to go broody.

Mom, the feathers on the chicks feet are awesome! Can't wait to see how they mature!

So, I got a deal on a 10 x 8 steel shed today, normally $295.00 I got it for $245.00 just cause the box was messed up

.... so it's being delivered tomorrow! I have a 6 x 12 lean too on the rabbitry shed, the lean was my garden potting shed. It was just sided in plastic lattes (small holes)... but we covered the walls with with a tarp for winter. Well this is going to be the new turkey coop. So Saturday, we're moving the tools out of the lean, and into the shed (after we build it) and opening up the lean and installing hardware cloth over the lattes. To keep the turkeys from "disappearing" to lay and brood the eggs, they'll be in lock down with the tom until they start brooding. This way I can protect the hens while they do their job! And keep the chickens away from them too! I'm always excited when we can change or modify what we have to make things work... That just leaves more room for doing more stuff

It's gonna be a busy weekend outside, I hope the weather holds out!

on a side note, I feel really bad, but we decided not to adopt spud the dog. We decided after hearing about his issues, and playing the pros n cons against our dogs, my parents (who care for the dogs etc if we go away) that he would not be a good fit at this time. I feel like I personally just abandoned the dog....... but I felt that since I was having such a hard time weighing the pros n cons and making a decision.. that we probably shouldn't get him.

Ok... about the sand... I understand that the best way to go about it is a layer of gravel, then a thick layer of sand. I have read that some people also use a weed barrier between the ground itself and the gravel... Well, that's my plan. I will use straw over the sand in the winter months... I just think I made a mistake with the leaves in the winter run where the ducks are concerned. The side the chickens are on is DRY!
Please don't use weed barrier. That's like trying to swim in a pool with the cover still on.

As for using leaves in the winter run, I dumped over 70 lawn bags worth of leaves in my run at the end of fall. Each law bag was filled with shredded leaves that I first ran through my shredder for a 10x reduction in volume. It was light and fluffy, drained well and the chickens loved scratching in it. I raked the run once in the winter to make a large pile in the middle, mainly for the chickens to play in but also to tidy up a bit. You can't tell today that I had waist deep leaves at Thanksgiving.

What are the breeds of those chicks mom? Are they Theron's or your girls? I like the yellow ones in the first photo with the feather legs. What are they?

They are neither from Theron or mine. I got the eggs off of ebay.

The auction was for:

SERAMA SILKIE D'UCCLE COCHIN FRIZZLE mixes .

Therons should hatch while I am in the hospital. I have half the eggs under broodies, the other half in the incubator. Cant wait to see them too!

RaZ, on the chickens side, those leaves were GREAT! They are still messing around with most of them. But just a horrible idea with the ducks. Albeit, it was very fun to watch them get all those worms when I was cleaning it out of their side. I saved all that I pulled out of there for the veggie garden. Figure with that compost/duck poo/food/ ect... and some of the neighbors rabbit poop, well I am going to have some good soil nutrients for those plants that love that.

Juise may be coming over yet today. I hope I don't freak her out! LOL
