Went this morning to get my yard wagon from Hope's dad so that I can start hauling branches. Then went and looked at a house that Hope's oldest son is considering. He wanted me to look at it and tell him what I thought it would cost to put an addition on it at and later date or if it has even feasible. One the way home Hope wanted to stop at Aldi's and pickup sauerkraut for dinner. $45 later we left the store without sauerkraut.

Now I guess I need to get busy and see if I can get something accomplished.

That was my yesterday, Aldi's also. And, the maple buckets all overflowed so they got dumped today, moved a bunch of bulbs (not on my list - thanks honey), cleaned the new chicks and ducks, set up the picnic table and bird bath, started laying out the foundation for a tractor, and now waiting for friends to burn some steaks and do nothing the rest of today!

Mom 2 - when I went to Townline and got Isa Browns, one of them looked like the orange chick you have. The one on the left. It was a pullet. So maybe you just have one chicken dinner there on the right - the yellow one. Or perhaps someone is looking for a nice ISA BROWN ROOSTER? I have never even seen one of those so he might be a type of rooster that would be in demand. You could offer him to someone who got Isa pullets and can have a rooster also. He might even be a good roo for your BIL's farm since a lot of the pullets you'll be giving him are smaller and could use some rooster protection.

I feel like Spring is finally here!

Im SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BUSTED!!!!

I am out hauling the hay bales around, trying to figure out where to put them ....and I hear the old neighbor behind me kitty-corner say:
"Look at the chickens Carter. How many of them do you see?"....

I look and every single one of the chickens I have are behind the garage scratching in a haybale.

I said," Hi! Dont worry, they arent all staying. " Then, fumbling for words...I said, "Would you like some eggs?"
He said, sure if youd like to sell them. I said "No charge. Be right back"...ran in the house, and got the whole darn bowl- probably two dozen in there and gave them to him. hahahahhaha.

He thanked me then told me that my dog sure is a barker. (Why yes..I keep him to keep the nosy neighbors from hearing my chickens). Stupid dog. Its not really my dog, so much as it is the dogs next door- but not about to argue. So I told him, "His name is Yogi- he really isnt a threat, he just soounds that way...so if he barks at you, just tell him to shut up and he will"....

That the eggs will keep my neighbor happy and he wont report me. And, the Polish just earned their keep. They are the only ones laying that I have. Thank you flighty Polish.

My brother in law has too too many roosters as it is. Gotta send them off. And of all the banties I have, probably more than half are roosters. PLUS, of therons eggs, there will be roosters. Never a short-supply of them, are there?

ANd the picture is only half. There are two whites, four brown ones.

It would make me really happy if they turn out to NOT be roosters, but to be some other breed of Pullet.

Hi chickengrandma!!!! Yes we spoke, I was in the row behind you all the way on the left. We walked out with snowflake. I am trying to buy my feed in one ton totes (The 17% or 18% grower ration) I will get the 3-4 week 21%-23% starter in 50 Pound sacks on a pallet. I will be getting USDA Organic non-GMO corn and no soy feed. Soy is what most feeds have for the protein portion, but I will not use it. and other ingredients can be used: peas, black beans, sesame oil, ETC. I will hang the totes in my barn by the rafters ( Totes are BIG Polyethene woven bags with a sewn in chute on the bottom and they close up at the top. It is like having a big plastic bag from the grocery store with a plastic sleeve at the bottom to empty it. I will have one delivered for the first 100 chicks and then one more delivered right after processing the first 100. I should have about 350 Lbs extra of the grower in each tote. Might be able to help with other growers needing this type of feed for meaties or for a special treat for special birds. I will be weighing the birds all through the process, (not every one) but a good sample to get an idea of feed use and conversion.
Great session wasn't it. I learned alot. Fred

Oh! Chickengrandma, I forgot to say I am in SW michigan down near Hopkins and Allegan. Hopefully I will find some help when I process about 95 birds. Someone told me about someone who will come to the property and do it there with a MPPU (Mobile Poultry Processing Unit). I still may need a few hands, I don't know yet. Last time I did 100 birds, I plucked thre of them, got so tired and disgusted, I skinned the rest, nice and easy but some people like the skin on. I cannot wait to have some great cage free and non gmo chicken. Thanks again!!!! Fred
