I bought a cantaloupe the other day; just grabbed one and put it in the cart. A lady standing there yelled at me, "you can't just take one, you need to check it first".
Welcome Fred, We are a chatty bunch here. It is sometimes difficult to keep up, even with high-speed Internet.

Maybe they forgot to set their clocks.

Honestly, I don't see what all the fuss is about. The day didn't get any longer than the normal 24 hours. I used to fly to Milwaukee once a month, I'd leave Detroit at 9:00 and arrive there at 8:45. Did I really go back in time?

Kim, I have an extra waterer if you need one asap. Call me. Also, consider renting a small yard tractor. I'll be doing that sometime soon, maybe we can share the expense. I used a mini-Kubota to excavate my pond and it worked great. It does less damage to the yard than a skid-steer (Bob-Cat). Of course a skid steer is more fun, you can do wheelies with them.
Exactly - My hubby will tell you that !!!! I believe that's why guys like them.

Mom 2em All I forgot a stinkin small waterer!!!!
Mom, i used a glass bowl last year with a large rock in it so they couldn't drown. Could get you by until you get a waterer? They ended up growing so fast i didn't even need the waterer. (I prefer bowls/buckets for the big ones) Can i ask what city you are in? i have been wondering if you are anywhere remotely near me at all.

Yeah, I have a bowl in there. Just gotta keep filling the darn thing. They are so messy! They grow fast though. I will just use the dish. I have the big girl waterers outside, and they seem to manage to empty them constantly too...throw the woodchips in, watch the water go away..
Im in Taylor.

Its okay- I will just make do. But thatnks. And as for renting big power equipment, sounds like a plan if it can fit through between the deck and the what-ever-its-called white carport thingy. Thats the only thing my husband will say. "Nope its going to be wheelbarrows and sweat..." "blahblahblahblah"..

Picture time. What did TSC sell me?

They are supposed to be Isa . They were in a bin labeled "red pullets" .
Here they are looking out the window at my neighbors house:

Nova's chick, just for fun:

and my naked chick...look how far behind the feather growth is:

Good mornin' Michigan chicken lovers, Telluria, newbie here, thought I would let you know that the small flock class at MSU was great and I met a great bunch of people. I have been posting over at Meaty Madness since I am going to be growing meaties. Not that I didn't go into theMichigan thread once. I have stellite internet and the "latency" between looking for something and then getting it back down on the screen is way longer than dial up and this site is notoriously slow anyway, so it is kinda like I have to wait 30 seconds of more to load and get back a page I requested. I will work through it. This site is worth it.

On another note, I am trying to find a real organic non-gmo and non soy chicken feed for my future chicken herd, I will be leaving in about 15 minutes to see a guy who says he can get me the right feed I want for less than everything I have in the bank. I will be ordering 2 tons of feed so I want it right the first time. Thanks everyone for the support. Fred

Welcome Telluria! Great bunch of people here. Wow, how many meaties are you getting? Two tons sounds like a lot of feed! Glad to have you with us!

Where is RaZ?
He is noticably missing.

Randy-
Will your hens eat pellets? I have an entire unopened bag here that you can have. I also have Uggo roosters..and I am in need of a chick waterer- do you happen to have a spare I could borrow? I searched my shed...scary scary place in there..no waterer. Found a feeding trough that I didnt have to buy yesterday

but no waterer...

I'm still here. I just haven't been up to snuff the last few days. Anyone have a cup of motivation that I can borrow?
My hens prefer the Grumble over the pellets. I suppose your could try to crush it up with a rolling pin. I really need a grain mill.

Cup of Motivation..sounds like you need a vacation..and a shot of espresso.

Yeah, that sounds like too much work- grinding pellets. My b-i-l can have the stuff. his hens eat anything. Mine are spoiled.

Would they happen to be pullets? My plan was to get some chicks from TSC this week but if yours are pullets I'd be getting eggs two whole months sooner. And I've thought of getting Chantelclers before and even if they are half breeds they sure do look like 'em. I've never had a white chicken before, either, unless you count meaties.

Please, please PLEASE say they're pullets.

need to rehome these little sweeties, they are 7 weeks old now. Buff Chantecler father, Barred Rock mother, except the white one, Lt Brahma for Momma. They love going outside but have been kept in the last couple days due to high wind and cold, but theyll be outside tomorrow and this week we're hoping for sure...stop by and see them. I really dont have the room. Asking $2 EACH.

Could they be leghorns?

AND how is a leghorn a 'red' bird?

I am having issues.

Mom - Looks like you have a couple MORE little roosters there. The ISA's can be sexed at hatch by their color. The tan ones are pullets and the yellow/white ones are cockerels.

Rhode Island
ISA Brown hybrid, cross between Rhode Island Red (female) and Rhode Island White (male) Created by alexg
Breed Information, Comments, and Experience with breed:

The ISA Brown is a hybrid type of Sex Link chicken, which is the result of crossing Rhode Island Reds and Rhode Island Whites. The ISA Brown is a hybrid, not a true breed. It is known for its high egg production of approximately 300 eggs per hen in the first year. The Institut de Sélection Animale, a French firm, the company which originally developed the breed in 1978 for egg production as a battery hen. The ISA Browns are a hybrid brown egg layers. They are easy to raise and prolific producers of large richly colored brown eggs of excellent shell quality. They are quiet and friendly and easily trained to lay in their nests. They tend to settle for an early in the day lay. We pick our eggs by 10AM. At birth you can tell the sex by the color... white chicks are males, tan chicks are females.
