I think my little bantam needs a friend too. She's the only one except for my Roo. The two do chum around together & she mingles well with the others but a lot of the time she just kinda hangs around on the side lines doing her own thing.

As for Sweet Bella, I guess the two of you both lucked out finding each other...a win -win situation!!

Maybe if we gang up and sweet talk Muttsfan, she will raise us a couple of sweet banties?

NO, NOBODY on here would think of doing that!

That's ok. I'm still laughing about it myself. I have to say that boy is an early riser! He won't do it to me again tomorrow, though. I have to be up before him!

Hee, hee! This same thought occurred to me. I was thinking a plate of deviled goose eggs mixed with deviled Sebright eggs. I will have to experiment. And who knows if the goosers will still be laying at the end of June? Well. lots of people probably know better than me... Just taking it one goose egg at a time currently.

The Goose Chalet! What a deal, hey? The father of one of my best friends raises and hunts beagles. Some friend of his gave him the Chalet years ago. Craig, the friend's dad, never made use of it. When I first got chickens, he asked if I wanted it. From the description (I never laid eyes on it until the day RaZ helped me get it), I said, "Well, maybe, but not sure what I'd do with it." Fast forward three years and I'm thinking about a shelter for the geese. My friend Candice says, "Dad's still got that dog shed." I was so excited when I saw it, and I told Craig, "It's perfect!" To him it was a huge piece of junk that had been sitting around forever. He thought it was quite amusing that I used the word "perfect." Now, it has seen better days, some of the exterior wood is going soft, it needs a paint job. But it is bone dry inside, and there is even a vent on the roof. I'm sure Craig could have sold it on Craigslist (ha! no relation I'm sure). I offered to pay him but he wouldn't take any money. And then when it seemed like Craig wouldn't be able to deliver it, RaZ stepped up and got it done, in plenty of time for goose egg season!

I have said it before. I believe there is a Fairy Goosemother looking out for those geese. Luckily for me!

I have to apologize, after meeting your husband I can't remember his name. But we chatted for a bit and maybe I can hook him up with some contacts at school. We have a pretty good network of people who talk code and remote sensing. Maybe one of the kids or profs there can offer a lead.

His name is Rick... or you could call him Mr. Yorkchick.
lau.gif
(That's funny to me 'cause he has a different last name. But I'll answer to Mrs. Stephenson if I have to, so turnabout is fair play.)

Thanks, Randy! If you happen to hear anything or can give us any leads, please do let me know. Rick really has done a lot of research and sent out a lot of resumes all over the country, had some interviews already, but no offers yet. I am going through contingency plans in my head. Worst case scenario, if we walk away from this house and move back to the smaller one we can't sell, we could get by just on my income. So we're not going to be homeless. However, I'm afraid we'd be busted for the chickens and the geese at the old house pretty quickly... Just thinking ahead.

Fairy Goosemother? Are you listening?

what about all them M2M has???
Okay, for one, I don't think I like having my name and "fairy goosemother" in the same paragraph. Even "chalet" is suspect.
And two, M2M raises "dinosaur" chickens. And except for the Uggos I got from her, she is a roo magnet.

BTW, I hope you know I'm just poking some fun here.

She has some cute ones she posted pics of.

Hey, Juise, how's it going over there? I am betting your girls loved this weather today. My boys sure did.
They did! I spent the day digging out the coop so that we can move sand in.
th.gif
I am beat! It was a horse shelter before we converted it into our coop, and though it has been years since there were horses in there, they.. er.. left a little piece of themselves behind. I shoveled out the most of it when we turned it into a coop, but mostly just to make it into level ground and not have a pile in there, as it had been left. (Previous owner.) Yee gads, just getting through that crust under the dirt was back breaking. It had really been trampled quite compact. Getting the wheel barrow over the 2x4s in front of the coop and run doors was a treat, too.
hmm.png
I think I need ramps! I'm still only about half done. Happy times for my garden, though!
love.gif

I was helped along by borrowing my father-in-law's Gator, they live just up the road, so I only needed to barrow it out of the run and clear of the trees, load it in the Gator, and drive it to the new garden bed. The thing has a dump bed, and man, is that sweet! Plus, the girls love riding in the Gator, though I need to make sure they are both in before I so much as start it up, or my 1 y/o panics, thinking I am going to drive it without her. I did it once, and she lost both boots in her frantic dash to get to the Gator, and was in hysterical tears, lol. Oops?

My husband and I also started building a new tractor for our soon-to-be new chickies, and we made decent headway. Unfortunately I lost all of yesterday to a horrible migraine.

I am pretty bitter about the lost weekend day.

The dog in the picture is Bella, my Cata-Healer (Catahula x Blue Healer), she was a rescue dog from an abusive family and after a blending in period, has turned out to be one of the best dogs that I have ever had. She is a wonderful watchdog for the flock and the hens seem to like her too.

RaZ, your dog looks an awful lot like a chicken, I think you better get that checked out.

Ok. I have a bit of a funny story about Neil, the rooster I got from sj.

Yes, spring has arrived. The sure sign here at Quagmire Acres is that I was driven inside by a cloud of mosquitoes. For real.

I know Spring has arrived, because small dead things started showing up in my back porch room again.

Thanks, kitties! I am totally having that for dinner.

0h no you dont...there are 23 chicks in my kitchen...17 are banties and SOME of them have to be girls..some of them. You can look at them, you seem to have the luck...picked out the only two girl Uggos there were...

Speaking of flooding, my neighbors across the street and then Carl got letters from their mortgage companies informing them that their homes were now considered as flood plains, and they need to have flood insurance. I have not gotten a letter, and I called my land contract guy and asked if they've gotten anything. Heres the effed up part. They both have to pay $500 for a surveyor to come out, do his thing, so that they will know how much insurance they need. And who's behind it? FEMA. Who has to do the surveying? FEMA. Oh yeah.. more gov't BS... The guy I got the house from built it. He said that in the 30 yrs that he lived in the house, he had never had a flood. Carl has lived in his house for 20, and says the same thing. But, because we have a stream across the street that gets overflow... I just hope it takes a while to get my letter. LOL. Some of the flood insurance can ad an additional 900 a year! WHAT?! Yup.

When I lived in my OWN house pre-husband days..well, husband days, but PRE this husband days..I had to get flood insurance and I was MAD> I live in Taylor and Way down the Hill on the other side of my neighbors property was a drainage creek. I even told the mortgage people..COME OUT AND LOOK- If I flood, we are in serious serious trouble..like grab your bible and run trouble. And they wouldnt come.
Now here, I dont need flood insurance, and you have all seen pictures of my backyard...

The Not-so-Uggos are about 14 weeks old now and darn near as big as the BO. They still roost with the little BLA at night but during the day they do their own thing. Poor little Gravy is left all alone. I think I need another banty or 2 to keep her company during the day. (That is a hint).
lol.png

again....my kitchen is full of banties..

So nice that you could share that little foible with us. Your kids are rotten and you would never hear any of us here tease you for your concerns, Mooottthhheeerrrr.

Now seriously...I wont pick out which ones you get from my clan, because I will pick roos..for sure. I cant help it..OHHHH I could go in the chick-sexing business..
I can pick out chicks and whatever is left over, is girls..hahahahhaa..

Anyhow, I wont pick them out, because those would end up being roos..but if you come pick out your own..look at the pictures, there are millions...
And they eat and they drink and they poop and they are dusty...and they arent big enough for me to put outside....

Dont forget to leave room for Chickenstock chicks..cuz you KNOW you will be bringing something home...

I know Spring has arrived, because small dead things started showing up in my back porch room again.
