oh baby ducks are so darn cute!
It wont be long and I will be getting calls for the mallard babies...so many- makes me wonder what happens to all the mamas.
I have had some pretty devastating things occur today- first, I was posting this big ole post here this morning to you all and my power went out.
I have eighty eggs in two incubators. I covered them with blankets and boiled water on the stove (gas) for steam. I still couldnt get their temps above 90 degrees. This was for six hours.
So, power back on while I am at work- called my kid who I let skip school just to incubator sit- and I told him to unwrap them then plug them back in.
(I came home from work and one of the incubators read: 104.
)
Then my son called me while I was working and said that my furnace was no longer blowing heat. Only cold air. I figured pilot light or something so I told him to turn it off at the main switch until I got home.
It wasnt fifteen minutes later that he called me again and said they all smell smoke (ten yr old, thirteen yr old, and him- almost sixteen)
and that my smoke alarm wouldnt quit going off. I could hear that. Nobody knew where the smoke was etc, so I told them to get their coats and get out of the house. I was FREAKING OUT!!!!!! My parrot, my home, my parrot...my cats... I thought for a moment and before I called 911- I called my daughter. "Is the oven on?" "Yes" "Is that where the smoke is coming from?" "Yes. " "Why arent you outside? Turn off the oven." "We did. The pans inside are smoking"
"Open a kitchen window air the house out close the windows dont kill my parrots"
They had turned the oven on for heat. Inside the oven is where I store my cast iron skillets. They heated/etc. caused a big smoky mess. No fire.
Oh my furnace? As far as I can tell, when the power returned it must have surged and fried out the circuit board. The fuse is good, and I cant figure it out- I cant restart it, nothing. So, no furnace for us.
