OK grandma:

So far i only have my adults. My EE roo, 2 EE hens, an orpington, A mini cochin, and the mean red hen that is running with the goats. Also the favorolle roo i saved from the crockpot, though what i'm doing with him i don't know. I want some banty de'uncle chicks, lav or porcelain.

I had wanted to make a lavendar pattern starting from my nicest EE hen, the one i'm holding. She is so odd but cute, being short and round. Not at all like the other EE's, who are longer. She even has a curved back! literally round. Fights for my lap too! My goal is a small bird that lays med/small eggs, that is ornamental and has a mother instinct. I figure if i use the nicest breeds, most of the chicks should have good temperment. Ultimately i want a chocolate/reddish brown patterned with lav, and that is supposed to be impossible, but i'm gonna try anyway. Morning doves are brownish with silvery blue under their wing, so the choc/lav has to be possible, just highly improbable. But it sure would be pretty! Once i get my foundation stock, i will not buy out no more.

We lost one of our barn cats tonight. I was coming home from the store and saw an animal laying in the road in front of our house. I thought it was a raccoon at first, but once I was closer I saw it was a cat and by the fur I knew it was our Stache. My daughters are devastated. He was the favorite of us all. So laid back and loving. Never missed a chance to sneak into the house. I have done what I can for him and we will bury the poor guy tomorrow.

lol. Sorry, I have been suffering yorkchick disease today. So keep checking in a bit just to keep up.

LOL! What immediately went through my mind was, "Oh, no, Nova's suffering from slackerliness and procrastination? That is SO not like her!" Then I read the rest of the post and obviously as usual that is not your deal! OK, then, migraine. Yep, I know about making yourself do that stuff when you're in bad pain. I make deals with myself. "OK, get through this day of work, get through this list of chores, the next bad migraine you have on a day off I promise you can go to bed then..."

Yorkchick disease. Hee hee. Isn't there something called "mushy chick disease"? Sometimes that's how I feel...

See? a little basketball with legs, a head, and a tail! If you sit in the chair by my coop, you will get her in your lap. Woe to any other bird you are trying to hold! I want some of her babies in the worst way, but no broodies yet. I'm hoping the cochin or the orpington might, but this is their first year so they may not? Do hens brood right away? I could borrow an incubator, but i really want them to be raised natural if possible. though if someone don't get busy i may have to, since i don't know her age and i don't want her to quit laying on me first!

Robin, you should hatch me out a couple of your D'Anvers (pullets) and bring them to Chickenstock..

I LOVE this bird! How did you get a basketball hen? She is perfect! You could patent her...and I want one! She is even camouflaged!

Teeville - I am so sorry~

I am sorry for your children too! I take it really hard when I lose an animal.

Fuzzy - BEAUTIFUL hen! And sounds like you have a nice little flock! We have always had a small flock 3-5 chickens of assorted types. Most of them were lap friendly also.
Aren't birds sweet!?

Babigyrl- I forgot to say that your roosters are just beautiful! So glad you found them a home!

teeville5 - so sorry about your cat.

M2M - I sure would do that if they were in a pen alone. Right now they are in with several other bantums. As soon as I get them in their own pen and know the chicks will be from that rooster I will get you some. They are so sweet. One rides on my shoulder all the time and if you go in the pen and don't pick her up she will run in front of you and stand looking at you. I know a guy in Ohio who sells them and I am going to try and meet him next Saturday and see about getting a couple more pullets.
