Okay that was weird, my internet connection went silent. The cable TV was working and so was the phone. One of those bundled scams that they sell. It took a couple of tries on the old hard-wired computer and couple of restarts on the wireless router to figure out that someone tried to access my account. Without the password, the system shuts down to prevent intrusion. I am not a suspicious person, but I also don't believe in coincidence.

Today has been a "Twilight Zone" episode.
Hmm....sounds fishy. But that's pretty cool, that it would shut right down upon intrusion. Sorry for all the crap you've been dealing with!

I'm reading the ticket I got, I can't tell if it says "Storey of chicks" or "storag of chicks". <sic> It also states that I'm in violation ordinance number "my address here".
Would it be too much to hope for that the officer issued a nonsense ticket knowing that it is unenforceable as written?

I'm thinking that I should take a dozen eggs over to his neighbor (a girl that I grew up with). Or is that just too darn cheeky?

That sounds like a pretty good idea to me. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the ticket is phony. But didnt you say he was kind of a jerk? Or do you think that was fake too?

So I have a question about chick socialization. I'm not big on letting the chickens run around the house (too much carpet) but I want them also to be friendly. I only really hold them for a few minutes a few times a day, and I talk to them a lot, and watch them, and put my hands in the brooder often. Do you think Im around them enough to get them friendly? I worry that they'll end up too shy or wild if I don't interact with them more than this. What do you guys think? They're about 3 wks old.

Can I ask for prayers for a co-worker's son. Little Lucas is only 7 months old and was born with congenital heart disease. He had a very rough first few months and today he went in for open heart surgery to remove a pulmonary band, plugs holes, and patch an artery. The surgery took 6.5 hours and he is currently still sedated because there was a setback. He developed an air pocket around his lungs and they had to place a chest tube.

teeville - Prayers for Lucas

Raz - I hope it gets thrown out but yah - what's the saying - kill them with kindness - take her some eggs.

I guess don't egg her like I suggested before.

Chick pictures as requested.

The only little one I have named - Yeti. She has splayed legs. How do I fix up a feather legged chick? Anyone have experience?

All showgirls - two on the ends have a stripe of feathers down the front of their necks.

I will try get more pictures tomorrow of the other little ones.

does anyone know if the clutch of eggs i left to encourage the hens to set is still good, considering the 80 degree temps??? Looks like my mini cochin is trying to set!! Yesterday and today both, she only left the nest while i was there for a brief time, than back up she went!

(she is being nice, and not biting, but it is cute to watch her puff herself up and tell me NO!)

the eggs have sat for a week
I don't see any problem with trying to hatch them. I have had two week old eggs hatch and the 80 degree weather we've experienced will have no bearing

I'm gonna be in Pinckney, MI tomorrow, so I'll be sure to wave at Howell, since I think there are some BYCers there. I am spending the night in Pinckney with a relative, and then on Sunday, I am picking up two baby goats in Mayville, MI! Being able to break the trip up into two days makes the drive easier.
You probably will drive right past my house.

Each year lives increases the probability of the man upstairs and I meeting face to face. With that in mind I have decided it is only prudent that I talk to him on a regular basis. When I talk to him today I'll gladly ask that he watch over your co-workers child.

I love Yeti.

I am praying for Lucas!

Sarah your chickens will be all over you, under your feet begging for treats, looking in your back door. If you give chickens treats, even totally wild chickens will fall in love with you and sit in your lap. They think with their stomachs!

No, he wasn't a jerk. He is just a normal guy trying to do his job. He did try to pull that "official" BS with me to start, but I made it pretty clear that his badge didn't frighten me. By the end, we were chatting just like normal people would do if they met through mutual friends.

As far as socialization, I'm not a model source. I tend to interact with all of the critters I meet and have always had good luck in getting them to tolerate me. The ducklings I have are wild mallards and I want them to leave when they can fend for themselves but when they scooted out today I was able to call them back with some peas and calling to them. My chickens are generally more accepting of human contact since I started groping them.

It might also be a breed thing. The silver laced Wyandottes I have in the brooder are pretty flighty while the ISA and BSL's don't seem to be all that skittish with me.

And while I'm typing this, my cat is draped over my shoulder like a sack of warm purr. I swear she has no bones in her body.

I don't pray like you Christians do, but I'll add my voice and sing for strength for this little warrior.

Raz, Sorry about the crap you are going thru. Your neighbor sure is a witch!
Prayers being said for little Lucas.
